My friend has an E743 with failed HDD. He is trying to replace it but it seems that this laptop needs total disassembly even for a simple HDD replacement. Can you provide some help in replacing the HDD. Are there any guides / HMMs available for this series?

The E743 seems to be the odd-ball w/o an accessible HDD compartment. The models preceding it and following it both have them!

Btw, if your friend can make do w/o the DVD drive, he can always purchase an HDD caddy to replace the DVD drive. That would be the quick and easy solution. Drivers are always on the Fujitsu website, and it should be pretty easy to dl a Win7/8.1 ISO to put on a USB stick from DigitalRiver/Microsoft. Of course, don't forget to deactivate the primary HDD from within the BIOS as it is not always healthy to have a failed HDD powered on...

I glanced at few pictures I found in the web...
Looks like all you need to do is remove all the screws in the bottom and then bottom panel comes off as a whole.

Pretty far from total disassembly. Try replacing the keyboard :)
