This post has many questions... Please answer as much as you can...

I care much about looks since I am a girl. I've read reviews and saw pictures of it but I still need more pursuading... Can anyone confirm the cosmetics of this machine?

If I do decide to get this computer, I live in California, where would be the best place to purchase this machine for a good deal? I really would like to pay no tax...

Are there any other cons about this machine that I should be aware of? Are there any other laptops worth researching or looking into that offer similar and/or better value and specs? I am interested in a thin and light notebook right around 4 pounds. I really wanted to dedicated video card but had trouble finding one.

Finally, has anyone replaced or added ram in this machine on their own? Some sites which sell this machine offer 512 ram and I would like more. Newegg sells ram upgrades for much cheaper than the computer sellers. Is it easy to replace ram or should I have the computer sellers do it for me? If I do purchase the Ram, which type of ram would it take? Thanks in advance...

I have no complaints about the looks - it is basic black, but reasonably sleek - not too boxey or anything.

Living in CA means that you would actually have to pay tax to portableone.com, but I'd say it is still worth going through them - they just dropped the price to $1149 base configuration, which is pretty nice. I suppose you could always have it shipped to someone you know out of state.

I'd say that it is about the best 4 lb notebook out there. You might get a little more speed from the Sony s-series, but it is more expensive and has more issues in my experience. The Sony does have a dedicated graphics card, though it still isn't all that powerful. The integrated card on the s2110 can handle Civ IV and AOE3, which is enough for me. The Fujitsu S6240 uses the same build, but has a Pentium processor. This means it will be a little faster, but have less battery life and cost more. The s2110 also has slightly better graphics and wireless. Still loses out in pure processor speed, but wins pretty much everything else. And the newer s2110 got a small processor bump with a bigger L2 cache, so they should be closer to pentium performance now.

And adding RAM from Newegg is pretty easy, just make sure you get the right type (PC 3200 I believe - check with crucial.com or the Fujitsu specs to be sure).

A sales rep. actually told me you get more battery power out of the S6240 vs S2110. I wasn't 100% myself so I didn't say anything...

    I don't see it dropped to $1149.....

If you select the s2110 on portableone.com and change the hard drive to 40 gb (base config), it shows at $1149.

And I don't know about the sales rep - the Turion MT seems to be lower voltage than Sonoma (though it is hard to factor the ATI chipset in). My major source is Fujitsu's own spec sheets - the s2110 is reported at 4 hours, while the s6240 is at 3.75 (and was previously at 3.5 when I ordered my system).

Plus PortableOne.com will check the screen for dead pixels before sending it off if asked. Performance wise the hard drive will make a bigger difference than the CPU.

When are they going to bump up the speed on the s2110 even more

Look for reviews in this website for any notebooks you are interested in. Other notebooks that you might want to consider are:

    Sony S-series (dedicated graphics)
    ASUS W3V (dedicated graphics)
ASUS Z63a (like the W3V but without the dedicated graphics)
ASUS W5A (nice 4lb 12" thin and light with built in webcam)
Sony VAIO FJ-series (built in webcam, 14" widescreen, no dedicated graphics)

They are stylish and very good notebooks.

Let us know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Actually, P1 apparently just ordered my S2110 for me and had it simply shipped directly to me (from Fujitsu in Japan) although I did ask them to check over the machine to make sure everything is normal (they never confirmed my request and I emailed them quite a few times). The shipping label was from Fujitsu who shipped directly to my address.

So from my point of view, it would have been the exact same if I had ordered my laptop directly from Fujitsu (same price as well) minus the fact that Fujitsu has been giving away free 512MB USB drives which would have been awesome if P1 mentioned the freebie.

For future purchases of Fujitsu laptops, which I'm planning on going with very soon for my family members, I will definitely just get it directly from Fujitsu as my first hand experience with P1 gave no beneficial advantage. I definitely wouldn't be ordering it from a large disitributor like Newegg though as their dead pixel policy is very stringent.

In the end, I am satisfied with my choice and purchase of the S2110. It looks slick (all my friends and family always positively comment on how small it is and how awesome the screen is) and on top of that, it is performing very well.

You are right not to order from Newegg, but note that if you order the S6xxx, as opposed to the S2xxxx, you get the 3 yr warranty thrown in. So on that model it pays to go with Portable One.

On the Sxxxx, you may be right...

Yeah, don't make the same mistake i did! I ordered from newegg because they had the best price at the time. I was lucky though no dead pixels :)

Just one thing I'd like to add is...try getting the S2110 after the 10th of January because Fujitsu will start shipping out the S2110 with the MT-30 processors. I got mine at the change and I thought I would get it, but P1 informed me about what I would be getting. Overall, I could careless since the doubled L2 cache won't give much of a performance gain. A 7200rpm hard drive and 1gb of ddr333 or ddr400 ram will do the trick. On top of that, Waterfield sleevecases seem to be real nice too so I will look into one of those.

Fujitsu posted the MT-30 on December 15th, but it doesn't mean they'll be sending them out ASAP. Ivan from P1 told me they won't start sending units with the MT-30 until January 10th, unless you got one with it. If you did...that's not fair :p

Then that's false advertising and should be reported. Why would they post the specs on their site with MT-30 if there are MT-28 processors inside? That is a dissapointment.
