The upper left corner of the keyboard on my N3510
has become ever so slightly lose. Such that when I
hit keys in the region, I feel the loseness/bounce/movement.
Fujitsu says send it back, but since this is mostly an
annoyance, I'd rather not - everything else is fine.
Would somebody tell me what is involved in opening
the unit up just enough to see if there is a screw to
tighten? Dell was great in this way, after the
laptop keyboard went, then sent me a new one and
instructions to replace it, it was a piece of cake.
But opening up the N3510 seems a bit less obvious, can
somebody tell me where to start if I want to get
just at the keyboard?
I know about voiding the warranty, I'm not really concerned
about this. If it isn't obvious what is lose, it gets closed
right back up. I'm not a fool...(I think)

I can speculate a bit. Looking at the picures available from the review.
Right above the keyboard notice that the border is actually seperate from the rest of the frame ... right?
Try to slip your nail above it (from the side of the screen). Does it dislodge a bit?
If yes proceed to just pass your nail/finger from one side to another, so that the latches pop out and that frame piece gets removed.
Underneath that you will most probably find the screws that hold the keyboard down.
Most of the times the screws holding the keyboard are on the top side.
Hope this helps! -
Thanks for the help with the loose keyboard. I
was wondering if you can be a bit more specific
so I can try this tonight.
You are talking about trying to loosen the
bezel at the upper part of the keyboard?
This would be at the top of the keyboard
surface, just below the screen, there is
a bezel that protects the power/wireless/sound
buttons. I am thinking if this comes off, it would
reveal some screws. Is that what you meant?
This thing is so tight, there is no obvious place
to try and open from. Unlike the Dell I had that
I replaced the keyboard in 10 seconds after they
send me a new one. -
tttttada got Fujitsu to send him a new keyboard on his N6210 without having to send it it, although it may be somewhat of a hassle, if you ask Ivan from portableone.com he could get you the answer
-
The piece that I am talking about is the one between the top of the keyboard and the green LEDs. Not the piece that house the buttons and lights.
So I am guessing that if you try and loosen that it should reveal something.
Look at the picture, that piece (circled in red) seems to me like it is discontinuous from everything around it, and might be the key. -
I didn't think they'd be so accomodating, but called Tim @
PortableOne and he says the key *is* that bezel where
the power buttons/sounds buttons are. It loosens from the
screen hinges which are all part of that same bezel. Pry
from behind the part that covers the screen hinge, lay it
all the way back open.
Once off I should see some tabs that hold the keyboard in
place. Probably no screws. May just need to be
reseated. I'll give this a try when I'm at home in front of it.
Thanks all! -
glad to hear that P1 are maintaining their great customer service!
my guesses were not too off, considering all I had to work with was a picture -
I did get the keyboard cover off as I described. It was actually
very easy once I knew what to pry on.
Interesting, there are no screws holding down the keyboard,
just a few tabs to keep it in place. Turns out the thin
keyboard/circuit board is warped slightly so that it sticks
up in one corner and bounces there. I could shim it up,
but that would be pretty lame.
Going to call P1 to see if I can get just that part replaced. -
once you get the power/volume panel off there isn't much holding the keyboard down, i cant remember exactly, but i thought there was one screw in the middle at the top under the power/volume panel, anyhow screw or no screw, that is typical, both my n3510 laptops do that, and every n series if tried. I'm waiting for my warranty to expire to put a piece of cloth under it to make it stop clacking every time i hit one of the upper left keys.
what else ya supposed to do?????
