Hey guys,
I'm not technically inclined so be patient.
I got my N6010 and love it. The only problem I have is that every once in awhile it won't boot properly, and now the sound isn't working.
Basically when I push the button to boot it up, it just hangs there and eventually shuts down. The screen stays blank.
Now when it shuts down, the blue light around the power button stays on.
What could be causing this? Any suggestions?
thanks,
Angus

Not certain, but from my senses, either the BIOS or the motherboard. Have you got the latest BIOS? Another thing you could so is, format your HDD and reinstall windows.

I have this problem occasionally also. It happens after you get past the Fujitsu logo, and write before windows starts to boot. The screen goes blanks and wont boot into windows. I believe this might be a device driver not loading like it should. The blue boot button wont respond, ctrl+alt+del does nothing as well. I have to pull the battery out and then reboot. After that it boots fine. And I just did a complete reformat and install last week. Maybe this is something that needs to be brought to Fujitsu's attention. Hopefully they will do a bios update before too long. But I do love my N6010.[

I have had mine since December and have not experienced this problem.
Well, if it fails to boot, just turn it off by pressing the power button for a few seconds. It will turn the computer off instantly. -
Could it be the backlight losing power? Try looking very closely at the screen at different angles to see if you can see anything.

I have had the same exact problem and thought that it was only mine! What do we do live with this problem? how is that 3 ppl on this board have this problem?
-
Don't thinks its a backlight problem. If it was I wouldn't see the blinking cursor. Besides, I just got mine back a week ago after having the backlight fixed.(power inverter) I did email Fujitsu's tech support and brought this to there attention. They seemed to think it could be a "windows issue", or a defective hard drive. As I said, mine only does it every so often. So I really hope it's not the hard drive. I've got the 100 GB. Just hope they didn't run into a bad batch.

Can any of you guys boot windows in logged/debug mode, where it asks you for confirmation at every step of boot up and see if problem always occurs at the same spot! That's the only way I know that pinpoints driver and windows problems.
Now if it is an HDD prob (do all of you have the same HDD!?) ... I sort of doubt it, bec if it is a surface having bad sectors then the problem would appear everytime. But bringing up the HDD issue, this reminded me of one friends desktop that used to freeze at different points at boot up we thought it was an HDD and then it turned out that one of his memory modules had bad areas. So can any of you try to scan their RAMs!

I hope your right qwester. I don't think that booting windows in logged/debug mode will help, as it doesn't do it every time. I hope it's something that can be fixed by a bios or driver update.

I went online and spoke with a Fujitsu support person who put me in the right direction.
I described the problem I was having with the system not booting up completely, and described what happened.
His suggestion was to take out all accessories including the AC adapter, remove the battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds or so. He said in doing this, you're removing any built up static.
In doing this, it also allowed my system to do a complete reboot which restored my audio completely.
I think I had a Windows "fart" of sorts, which made my system stay on even though I selected Shut Down. I knew this because the power button light stayed on no matter what.
So my problem seems to be fixed. I hope this helps!

did gadzukes' solution work for the rest of you guys. Cause if this was all what was to the problem, it seems to me like a bios or some other hardware issue that can be resolved thru a reset.

Has to be Bios related or a driver problem straight from factory. I had two separate brand new N6010 and both had the same problem. The only way to turn off the notebook was by removing the battery as pushing down the power button had no effect. I decided to go with a different Fujitsu after having this annoying problem. Hopefully those of you that have the N6010 will have a Bios or driver update sometime. It seems that I never really see many updates from Fujitsu compared to other notebook manufacturers.

Thats the exact same problem I'm having. I wonder why no one mentioned this before? When did you purchase your N6010 Mike? I really would hate to have to send mine back a second time.
quote:

I have also seen this same problem, twice, about 2 months ago. Which I was only able to reset by unplugging the AC adapter and pulling the battery out.
-
Hmmmm. I've had the problem occur once too. Same thing happened with my Dell when I purchased it 3+ years ago and it took two bios updates to fix it. How do we go about telling Fujitsu about this?[V]
-
People who purchased recently seem to have no problem, like me!
So here is my Bios version, maybe I have a different bios than you guys. I was too lazy to reboot and check it from the bios so i used cpu-z (when i reboot i'll check again to make sure the numbers are right).
version: 1.17E
date: 10/26/2004
you guys have something older?
[EDIT]: verified Bios version in Bios, values appearing above are from Bios setup screen

Actually I purchased both my N6010's in March so unless I was buying old stock from Frys (which could be possible) its probably still a current problem. Great notebook though!
