Ok, either I'm a total moron or this is a standard practice BUT, while capturing my screen the other day with Camtasia I coughed. Later during editing, I noticed the cough caught in the soundtrack as well as some of my mumbling.
I only had the headphones plugged into the headphone jack and I was recording the audio off a stream on a webpage.
How did my cough get into the soundtrack?? Later to test what's going on, I fired up CoolEdit, unplugged everything from any jacks and spoke in front of my laptop. To my surprise, the graph registered sound and on playback I got a clear recording of what I'd said. Is Fujitsu putting in hidden Mic's in their laptops??
There is absolutely NO mention of a built in Mic in my manual.
I'm totally confused.

Most Laptop Have Buit in Mics

OK, this was really bugging me so I called Fujitsu. The tech told me that there is no mic in this particular model. After I told him that there HAS to be, since the spectrum graph in cool edit shows a wide dynamic range of a recording after speaking in front of the laptop and the fact that I can clearly hear my voice afterwards, how would one explain that?
He put me on hold. After a couple of minutes he came back and said, that indeed there is a hidden mic but there is NO MENTION of it, even in his documentation. He said he will pass this on so they can find out why this isn't mentioned in their or the customer's manuals.
I'll be dammed. All the cursing I do in front of this laptop when I check my lottery numbers, and Skype is running in the background. No wonder my "contact list" keeps getting shorter and shorter lol
I'm attaching a screen cap of cooledit with me yapping in front of it with no external mics attached. -
