I've been using battery power on my Lifebook S6231 twice a week for two hour lectures. How long before my battery starts to loose its ability to hold power?

On my old Thinkpad, after 3.5 years of use my battery became useless - i can now only get 5 minutes on battery power on the thinkpad.

Is it worth it to buy an extra battery now?...in case in a few years Fujitsu will no longer make batteries for the current S-series laptops?

I anticipate im going to get a lot of miles out of this thing. :fujitsu:

I think, at least till now, accessories are common, so no need to be afraid of not finding batteries. As for expected life/recharge cycles, the number is not standard. It depends on the battery. But I think it is safe to say that you can easily get 1000 life cycles before you start noticing any significant loss in recharge ability.

By that time, someone will probably be making generic fuel cell methanol tanks then it'll be only a matter of buying the fuel.

Yeah, well i'm just doing some sci-fi here but might happen.

Well, let me tell you about my battery experience. I just noticed that my battery wasn't lasting as long as it used to. My usual 45min-1hr was now more like 30-45 min. Within a few days, the battery was suddenly dropping from 48 or 60% charge to 7% charge. I thought this was pretty odd, so I emailed Ivan at P1. He said that performance on batteries can drop drastically after just one year, which is why manufacturers only do 1 year warranties on batteries. Additionally, any extended warranty you purchase, like I did, won't apply to the battery because Fujitsu knows it won't live too long past a year. I guess I should feel happy I got 18 months out of mine. Still, I'm not happy about having to fork out $150 for a new battery.

Also, it's best not to buy that replacement battery until yours is dead, since it has a lifespan, whether you use it or not.

Thanks for the replies! It seems to me like Portable one = God in the laptop world, they know everything and are honest with their customers

So do you think batteries will still be made for the S6000 series in a couple years? I had a bad experiance with my previous laptop where my AC adapter died and they stopped making the model i needed....i had to spend three weeks searching

I would expect that Brian or P1 will have to answer that one. They both seem to have long records with Fujitsu.

until now the S6000 have had common accessories since the S6120 (I think that was the first model) so as long as this series remains alive you won't have problems finding accessories. And I don't think Fujistu will kill the S6000 for no reason, it is their best selling ... unless Yonah's high demands cause a problem :(
