    Dear all,

My Amilo Li 1705 screen is broken.

Before it broke, I hooked it up to a monitor so as to play movies on it, but now I need to do this to simply use it as a PC.

So how can I make screen 2 the primary one without being able to access the main screen/desktop?

I have tried doing it in safe mode, where the desktop will appear on the monitor, but it's display settings only recognise one monitor when in safe mode. I have also done a search (Vista (start menu)) and guessed that it's opened the settings box, but have been unable to drag it from the desktop to screen 2 by blind fishing.

    Any ideas folks  ????????

To move a dialogue box that you can't see, try the following:\
    Alt+Spacebar (brings up the menu)
    M (for MOVE)
tap the cursor up key once (this puts it into drag mode, as if you were moving it around with the cursor keys)
Move the mouse sideways to the second screen. Dialogue box should be attached to the cursor, which the mouse is moving.

Works for me - I use it a lot, since my system does not handle dual screens well, and tends to open windows completely off the screens. I use this to drag them back onto one of the screens.

Thank you very much for replying.

I shall try that tomorrow. As long as I can get the Display Settings box to open it sounds very promising :) .

    Thanks rfielder.

That worked a treat and I now have a usable laptop.

Fn+Display key cycles between different configurations.

On Amilo la 1703 it's F4, on couple newer Amilos it's apparently F10 key.

That wasn't working for me. I presume because screen 1 was set as primary and screen 2 was a just a backdrop to play videos on the TV/Moniter. Fn+4 didn't even turn the screen off. Maybe there's a fault, but as the Amilo is now only a backup emergency laptop, I wont worry about it.

Many thanks for the response though :) .
