I just got my N6210 about 2.5 weeks ago and I must say that it is fantastic, period. thanks to the people of this site for convincing me to get this Fujitsu.
I just had some simple questions about upgrading RAM and hardrives.
Where is the best place to buy ram and what brands would you recommend, I want to get a 1GB stick. and also how do I know what will work with my N6210? is it fine to have the original stick of Fujitsu RAM and another brand in the two seperate slots?
As for upgrading HDs is there another recommended brand? I see that newegg.com has fujitsu HD's and Hitachi which my N6210 came with, i have the 80 GB right now and I was planning on upgrading when I felt I needed too. Also where is a good place to buy a hardrive?
oh yeah, i got my Fujitsu through Portableone.com and I must say that they were excellent all around.
also I think i saw this question come up before, was it made in Japan?
the box says made in China but it shipped from Fujitsu in Japan.
thanks
and thanks again for convincing me to make my first ever computer purchase be with fujitsu :fujitsu:
oh yeah, and Half-Life 2 is the best game ever!

Look at the base of the machine, that will tell you where it was made, I'm fairly certain it was China, regardless of where it shipped from.
RAM - look at Crucial, I'd also recommend Kingston and Kingmax. Any mainstream brand should work and it doesn't matter if you mix and match brands.
HDD - Ask again when you're ready to buy, the landscape will change by them most likely...especially as high speed larger capacity drives reach market. -
Brian, I thought somebody posted about having a problem with mixing brands of RAM in their fujitsu (swissbit + kingston, I think)-- did that get resolved?
Personally, I thought it wasn't supposed to be a problem anymore.
Edit: here's the thread-

thanks for your help but my question was really how do I know what ram will work with my computer. I believe I need DDR2 correct? and from what i have found corsair seems to be the most recommended, and again where is a good place to buy, good service, shipping etc.?
i just did a little research and answered my own question, I need SODIMM DDR2 correct? 200-pin -
I did not upgrade the RAM in my S6231, but I have used Crucial memory upgrades in most, if not all of my desktop computers without a single problem. The RAM that is available for the Fujitsu N series can be found here.

You go to the website of the memory company- crucial, kingmax, kingston, etc. They usually have a memory confiurator tool that lets you enter your system and then it tells you what ram to buy. However, as Brian said, it probably won't matter which company you buy from so long as the RAM has the proper specs- DDR2 533MHz for laptop, not desktop. The form factors are different between laptops and desktops. I prefer kingston, kingmax, and micron, because they publish timing and other specs for their dimms, whereas I couldn't find any such information from corsair.

yeah i went to the crucial site and put in my specs. what about PC2 speed or whatever it is, what is PC2? crucial site said pc2 4200 for my computer.
and also, I got the N6210 with 2 256mb Ram unfortunately so would you recomend I just get 2 512mb or 1 1GB and use the 1 256mb in the other slot?
and do you just recommend getting it from the companies site? -
Never heard of PC2. Just DDR and DDR2, which is what you should use. Well, as to what to buy, I would go get myself some Kingston or Kingmax. Costs less, just as good, as far as I know. I can't recall if your system has dual channel memory or not. Do you know?

I'm interested in this notebook as well. What are you specs?

I just got the base N6210 from portableone.com with the 80GB hardrive and the DVD burner. I just got the base memory also, now however i really wish I would have gotten the 512mb in one slot instead of two 256mb, but I am plannin on getting a 1gb stick of memory so i will have 1gb + 256mb so it will be fine. But i would recommend getting the one 512mb.
I am in love with my new N6210! a few RAM and HD questions
