    Hi everyone,

Being a thinkpad user for a long time, I really love to use thinkpad's keyboard and count on IBM's reliability. The only thing I am not satisfied with is IBM's screen --when I compare with Sony and Fuji's screen, I was always wondering why IBM do not pay attention to the brightness of screen and why they do not choose 13.3" as a perfect size of screen?

After using T41 for over a year, I feel everything is fine, especially IBM's reliability and durability. Now I am going to buy another notebook for my wife, and I hope to have a better screen and equal relaibility as IBM. I am thinking about S6231 --perfect size, perfect screen, good keyboard. Only one concern is whether it can last for a long time without any problem just like thinkpad?

I've hear fujitsu had a bad services, and some s6000 series did have some problem. Can any s6231 user share his experience? --No question about the first sight, but whether it can last a long time?

    Thanks

    Eric

Well nothing is built as good as an IBM! But fujitsu is considered second only to IBM when it comes to construction. The S6231 is a very popular model as you will notice if you skim thru these forums, with no issues of durability. As for service it depends on where you are. Here in the USA we are blessed by www.portableone.com and their exemplary service. I think anyone on these forums who has delt with them can vouch for that, actually you will find a lot of stories about their great customer services on these forums, including mine.

So if you are in the USA be assured that when dealing with P1 you are dealing with the best!

And if you're not in a hurry the S6231 is expected to be refreshed to get the new intel sonoma (new centrino!). They were actually expected to be already out, but there seems to be a delay, but they could arrive any day!

We had a quasi announcement of S7xxx update coming in may, but no similar announcement of the S6xxx refresh.

The s6231 at Portable One comes with three year warranty standard.

Is there a button or a way to disable the touchpad in the settings? In a review of 6210 that I saw, the poster said there is a button to disable the mouse.

Does NE1 know what is the rpm of the hard drive is from New Egg, 4200, or 5400? I know you can customize from it from P1, but can't find anything about New Egg?

I played around with the 6231 at Frys, wasn't to impressed with the keyboard, had audible clicks and seemed kind of springy, contrary to reviews. Lid had noticeable creaking sound. Is this possibly because it's a display model, or have others experienced these probs ?

I'm debating right now between the Asus M3NP and the Fujitsu, seem to be good reviews on both.

In the control panel under mouse, there should be a tab "USB mouse connection" that will let you disable the touchpad.

The Fujitsu S6231 from Newegg has a 4200 rpm hard drive.

The keyboard isn't as solidly built as an IBM thinkpad, but I find it okay. Then again, I'm not nearly as sensitive as others who can detect the reported keyboard flex with this particular notebook.

So can you only disable it if you have a usb mouse connected?

There is an option for disabling the touchpad all the time.

this is the same for all fujitsu's. + you can use Fn+F4 to disable/enable temporarly, for cases when you have no mouse to navigate back to the control panel but you're being bugged by the touchpad coming in your way.
