hey all (Laptop = FS Amilo Xi 1546), nearly everything is perfect cept for =>
    here's whats troubling me;
Firstly, the sound is really way too quiet, even when all the settings everywhere i can find have the speakers on full. Ive tried almost application i have, e.g. the realtek manager, windows own sound settings. I dled the latest HD realtek codecs but that made no difference. Any ideas cept for living with it?

Secondly, where do i find ati mobility drivers ?! Ive tried the ati site, and dled the ones for Windows Media Edition, Radeon, X1800 but they didnt work ?! So had to resort to the disk the manufacturer gave me to install the originals again.

Lastly, not really a FS problem but if any1 could shed any light nonetheless, would be greatly appreciated! Basically my fav game is the frozen throne, warcarft III but it doesnt seem to support 1440x900 on my laptop, just going upto 1024x768. However on my home PC, the are way more resolution options, even going upto 2048x1536x32. My home PC has a radeon 9200 128mb. Any ideas again ? :(

Thanks if you can get back with anything!

Try and download the latest drivers from the Fujitsu Siemens website, for the sound card. I don't see why the speakers are not loud. Its most likely to be a software setting that is stopping them from being loud. Also, check the application you are using to play the sound, and make sure that it is not limited from there.

ATI Mobility drivers are available from the ATI website. Make sure you select the Mobile range, because drivers from other ranges may not work. If they don't work, try downloading the drivers from the Fujitsu Siemens website. For the problem with the game resolution, make sure that the game is updated and patched to the latest update. Also, try it with other games and see if they do the same thing. Hope this helps.

For ATI drivers for the Xi1546: http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/

About the sound: there is a scroll wheel on the left front side, are you sure that is turned to the max? If that doesn't work: go to support.fujitsu-siemens.com, download drivers for Notebook, X-series, Xi1546 and then download the audio drivers. Also ty your chipset.

The drivers that Notebook Solution has linked are probably the correct ones, but if you want to be absolutely sure, go to the ATI website, and download the ones there.

I have linked a page below where you can select the relavent information, and the website will direct you to the appropriate drivers:

Through that link you can only download a validation tool which is used to recognize your system compatibility with Mobile Catalyst driver suite. However, the tool rarely recognizes the Mobility Radeon X1800 even though it's compatible. The direct link to the latest Mobile Catalyst drivers Notebook Solutions gave is the one to use if you have Windows XP (Home, Pro or MCE). I have always used that link to get the latest driver and never had any problems.

Does that link give a driver which is more to date than, apparently what my computer says mine is which is: 8.261.0.0, 23/05/06 (driver version). Its just that i wanna make sure before i uninstall again as last time, i wasted half and hour. Also do i HAVE to uninstall the previous stuff via 'add remove programs' or can i just run the new driver file straight away? aRGH i wish ati had a 'click here to check if there are updates' option rather than us trying to find the exact right one.

    thnx!

It is highly recommended that you uninstall the old drivers, then restart the computer, install the new drivers, and restart again. Drivers can become corrupt if they are installed more than once, without uninstalling the older ones. The link that Notebook Solutions give should work, and it should be the latest Mobile Catalyst.

ARRRRRGHHHHHH...........that link didnt work (notebook solution's one). Neither did that validation tool which it shouldve as it said on the page that FS laptops with mob x1800 is supported. Both times, the laptop said my hardware wasnt supported, discontinue. WHAT IS GOING ON. Im gonna leave my 2 year old drivers for the mo now, had enough :(

On another issue (i am really grateful for all the help so far), how would i go about turning off the sub woofer? Its just that, i use a fm transmitter to transmit audio files to my hifi and the sound quality is pretty bad. The transmitter is really a top notch one, and on my sisters laptop the same audio files have a much better quality, almost perfect, so the finger is kinda pointing at my new laptop. Any ideas?
    thanks!

I believe the subwoofer problem was fixed with a new driver from Realtek. Its the latest one, so you should be able to download that, and th subwoofer should not make that hissing noise. However, members on the thread which firt identifyed the problem, say the driver makes the subwoofer act like a normal speaker, but if you are using an external system, then it should be okay.

hey thnx for that zero but i dont think its the same prob. Basically when i turn the volume up on my laptop, the sound coming from the hifi becomes incredibly 'mushy' and the bass is really too much.

thnx for the help you've given zero, now to go and figure out how to rep some1..

SupaMega, I think I understand yuor problem. The same thing happened to me, when I pulled my notebook from the box. I had a look at the Realtek sound settings, particularly, the equiliser, and adjusted practically all of the bars there, and I got the speakers to perform as best as when put to full volume. See if that works.

You should be able to find the Realtek sound software in near the time, where most of the other programs on startup are.
