So I just ordered a Fujitsu S2110 off of Portableone.com with the following specs: Fujitsu S2110 with 64 AMD Athlon Turion Processor, 60GB 5400 RPM, 1 GB of RAM, 13.3" Crystal View Screen, DVD Dual Layer Drive, XP Pro. Total is $1749.00.

I just hopped on over to Fujitsu.com and saw that they have a promo where you get a Free inkjet printer with any order of a laptop...should I cancel my order with P1 and order from Fujitsu just to get the printer (both also have free shipping). Please reply soon so I can cancel my order if necessary.

I think the printer is valued @ $45-$50 on eBay, and since the configurations of the same computer is the same price @ P1 and Fujitsu, I say go for it.

Yeah, but I've heard great things from P1 support and if I buy it through P1, if there should be a problem with the laptop I'd have good support which I might not get through Fujitsu. That's my main hesitation.

On my quest for a lappy with a outdoor readable bright screen I ordered a laptop from P1 - no problems when I returned it, great support and full refund if I remember.

Isn't portable1 still cheaper than Fujitsu?

If not ask them if they can match the offer ... worth a try, to avoid a cancel/reorder!

I checked and they're both exactly the same price for the same configurations.

Do you think P1 would match the offer if I asked? Do you think it'd be something that would be worth asking for?

I just checked P1's site and your sort of missing out on their promo.

If you get it with 40GB 4200RPM HDD it will cost you $1569

and you can then get the HDD from newegg for $85 (aprox, incl. shipping)

    Total $1654

So you save a $100 and get a spare HDD that you can plug into an enclosure to use as portable storage OR sell it.

That is the cheapest deal. + the HDD exchange is extremely easy on a Fujitsu S series!

Well, I've ever opened up a laptop before so I'm not really comfortable with installing hardware even RAM which is supposedly the easiest thing to install.

I also saw that P1 is also upgrading 40GB 4200RPM to 60GB. Do you think I should even get the 5400RPM HDD? Would it even help the performance by that much?

    Thanks for your answers :D

I would say 5400RPM should be a minimum. The difference in perf. is too great for the slight price increase, in my opinion. (It's just that manufacturers price the upgrade too unreasonably, in reality 5400RPM aren't much more expensive than 4200RPM)

As for the upgrade. It's just 2 screws. Slide out the HDD that is in a cage. Replace the HDD in the cage (4 screws involved), slide in, rescrew. You will be done in 5 minutes. And then reinstall windows from the included DVD. It is extremely simple, and doesn't require any PC building skills ... especially for the saving of $100

good idea qwester. could you elaborate about having it as a... "spare HDD that you can plug into an enclosure to use as portable storage." Also how much do you think the 40GB 4200rpm would sell for?

I used the 60GB 4200RPM that came out of mine (when I upgraded to 7200RPM) and put it in a nexstar2 usb enclosure ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145124) (there are fancier ones out there :p), and now use it as an external drive, and it's small enough to be portable, and it doesn't need power source (powered by USB)

As for the price of a used 40GB 4200RPM, I am not too sure but a new one goes for around $65 at newegg. So I figure at has to be a bit below that, since it is practically "almost" new

Okay, wow, that external harddrive idea is GREAT! I have an iPod and download music like crazy and having an external harddrive is a GREAT solution to store JUST the music files. :D I just emailed P1 and asked them to cancel the order and I'm going to wait for confirmation and make a new one with just a regular 60GB 4200 RPM HDD.

One question though, when I'm purchasing the new HDD is there a specific brand I should look into buying?

Dont sell the old drive! You might have to replace it back into the unit if you ever need to send the laptop in for repair!

WOW ... I got mine for $170 shipped from ZZF, back in march. And I got that NexStar2 Enclosure as part of the bundle (or practically for free)!

Maybe there is a shortage in stock these days, that's why prices are up. If you don't need it urgent, maybe you're better of waiting for a few weeks.
