Hello everybody, I just ordered a Fujitsu S6231 from Portable One. I made my decision off of the research I did on this site and others as well as from the feedback i read from this forum.

I changed the default HD to a 60 GB 7200RPM HD and I changed the RAM to 768 ( 1 512 and 1 256). The price came out to $1710. Kinda pricey but I feel good about Fujitsu quality based on prior experience with their plasma televisions.

What do you guys think of my purchase and upgrades? BTW, where do i buy a docking station from? I didn't see it on Portable One's website, should I purchase one from Fujitsu directly? Are Cooling Pads a good idea?

I don't think you will be needing a cooling pad. In the last upgrade that the S6000 got its cooling was improved. But maybe some owners could be of more help.
BTW excellent buy, with extra RAM and faster HDD you should have no major bottle necks.

    Congrats!

Congratulation..you just purchased the best portable laptop computer on the planet. I can't comment on the HD or memory upgrade..I didn't get those. But I did opt for the DVD multidrive and the extra drive bay battery. The bay battery doesn't add much weight..and I'm showing 7 hours run time with full charge with both batteries. I also bought a Billionton BT PCMCIA card and a Bluetake BT-500 mouse that work great together.

The cooling pad is not necessary if you are on a budget. The bottom does get warm (maybe even hot, I think it gets hot other disagree with me) and you may want to let it cool down on standby/hibernate/off before you put it in your bag or sleeve. However, the keyboard never gets hot, rarely even warm (and that is even after typing for 6 hrs straight).

I don't use a cooling pad, I just make sure I let the computer sit on standby before I but it in my notebook sleeve. (or at the very least don't close the zipper).

I probably don't need the extra features in XP Pro, but I never had it before so I thought I'd try it out.

I just got my S6231 two weeks ago and I'm absolutely loving it. However, is it just me or does this laptop get really hot after a few hours? I don't have to be running too many programs but I can feel the heat through the keyboard. It's almost too hot to type on it.

Mine gets moderately warm underneath on the left side where the felt is, but not nearly as hot as my last toshiba. I don't feel any warmth on the keyboard whatsoever, and with the weight saver in the bay drive, there's less warmth. If you put your ear next to the vent on the left side, can you hear anything? I can hear a very faint noise of a fan that is otherwise imperceptable with usual background noise in the house going on. If you hear nothing at all, that could explain a heat buildup.
