    So I got the 1GB PC2700 Kingston KVR333S0/1GR at Fry's for my Fujitsu S6220.

    PROBLEM:
RAM works by itself, but not in combination with my Swissbit 512MB PC2700-2533 DIMM installed by P1 when i bought the thing. I tried putting both in in either slot and the laptop never even gets to the BIOS. Either one works by itself.

Does anyone know what the problem is? I thought they were both PC2700 DDR333 - why won't they play nice together? Should i just get another 1GB and forget about it?

    Any feedback appreciated - cheers.

some motherboards are picky about what ram your use most times to avoid conflict its best to get two identical brands as a rule its best never to mix brands also you should run a memory test to see if it gets errors prime95 is the program i think run it over night it will tell u if you have bad memory.

That's a problem with mixing rams! I am afraid there is no way around it except living with one module, or returning the one you just got. BTW 1GB should be MORE than enough for any use, even gaming ... unless you do serious mathematical modelling or video editing 1GB is more than you'll ever need!

You might also check the timings just to make sure both dimms want the same set up. I thought they were when I was looking into the matter a while back.

Hmm happened to me once with my compaq. Hmm try to clean the pins with an eraser and make sure it's securely inserted into the slots. if this doesn't work then.. i think the guy above me is right.. mixing of rams

Just to be sure (and stating the obvious), you did completely switch off your computer before installing the RAM right? Not just put it in hibernation...

    hi --

    Thanks for all the replies.

Yes i turned it off completely of course. I don't think it's a dirty pin issue, so probably just don't play well together. I think i will probably return it for now and get 2 1GB's when they get a bit cheaper. I do video editing on my laptop and also a lot of image work. The Nikon software that came w/ my camera is a total RAM hog (POS software, but does "auto-correct" really well and for some reason Picasa puts a sepia hue on everything.) I also like to have lots of apps open at once and i'm starting to bump up against the limits of 768 MB.

Anyhoo - thanks again for the replies. Helps to know i'm not special in my woes.

    Cheers
