I am in the market for a new laptop, and really like the S7110 model, which seems to be a good combination of screen size, weight, and features. But it's been out for a while, and I can wait as long as 4 months before I make a purchase. Are we likely to see a model update within this timeframe?

I'm looking at other models like the T60, but I have been very happy with my N5010 for the past three years and would like to stick with the brand.

    Thanks.

One thing to tell - If you like Fujitsu, you wont like IBM...
There should be pretty major product updates in april/may. But its only "SHOULD". They promised to bring out another Q model in late november, but still nothing. So really no information, to rely on. bye

Thanks for the tip. What wouldn't I like about the Thinkpads?

I'm guessing they won't upgrade for a while. Most you'd probably get is a upgrade to vista, which I tried already and let me tell you, the load time is slow compared to XP.
And let me also warn you that S7110's SXGA+ screen is not very good for watching movies, it had weak viewing angles (not sure about the XGA's).
Now, My friend just bought the lenovo Z60t with similar specs and I must say I really like both brands,
but the thinkpads came with alot more junk preinstalled.
Where as the fujitsu ones came with minimal junk.

Thanks for the info. I love my N5010's huge glossy screen, and figure I'm not going to be able to do as well with my next laptop, whether it's a Fujitsu or Lenovo. (I want something physically smaller, but with the same 1400x1050 res.)

About the junk on the computer though...the first thing I do when I get a new lappy is wipe the drive. :)

Frankly, I don't see myself going to Vista for a while no matter what I get. XP runs Office 2007, so that's pretty much the only thing that would have forced me to upgrade.

Getting an older fujitsu might not be a bad idea. I get the feeling there have been more complaints about newer fujitsu models since we bought several years back. They also don't sell through P1 anymore :( You should shoot email to Ivan at P1, tell him what you want, and see what he suggests.

Oh, and I'm with you on the these 16" screens- they are to DIE for.

My company uses the S-7110 and E-8110. We have about 500 S-Series deployed. The model has been reliable, cost effective and is balanced on features, performance, size and weight. We just updated our PC standards and continued the S Series so I doubt there will be significant changes other than perhaps a processor bump and minor Vista tweaks.

I can attest to the ruggedness of the S. I saw one bounce off concrete from a three foot drop (it hit flat, not on the corner), had no discernible damage and runs to this day. Obviously saved by its low weight. The bigger they are the harder they fall, as the age old rule states.

It's a good business unit. I personally would not want one for home use as I prefer a wide screen. That's why I bought an N3530 for personal use. However, it appears size is an issue for you and the N runs around 10 lbs with much larger footprint over the S.

You may also look at the E Series. It is comparable to the S in price but has a 15" screen as opposed to the 14.1" on the S. Additionally, it has dedicated video RAM which in my experience, can improve performance significantly. Still, it may be larger than you like.

If santa rosa thing is gonna come out earlier you might expect a new release on fujitsu models, but it's hard to tell when, as I often just see a model pop out of nowhere whenever I check fujitsu website. I'm sure lenovo will release a new santa rosa version as well. I usually check out the store on fujitsu models alot, although never seen the S7110. Lcd's screen of fujitsu is nicest I have seen, even better than sony's when I saw it in store next to each other.

One thing though, each models of fujitsu crystal view seems to have different brightness and contrast, one better than the other, make sure you get a high contrast/brightness ones, the more the better one and won't regret it.

I own a T42 and fujitsu n3410 and IBM/lenovo is a better built enough said, but if you want the best screen better go for fujitsu. If you want best quality in risk of an "ok" matte screen you'd go for T60.
