I recently bought a lifebook s7010d about two weeks ago and I think it is a great computer. The 14 inch monitor is a real treat and I dont have any problem with the keyboard.
I got my computer with the DVD burner super multi drive. Unfortunately I do not have any idea how to take advantage of this feature. Fujitsu's customer service won't help and googles only turn up information about DVD-CD burner software

You need to backup some DVD's, that's how you take advantage of it. [

Seriously, what do you want to do? Do you take home movies? Do you need daily backups for a small business? Do you want to make music CD's?
You can do many thigs with these drives. I use mine to backup DVD's and make music CD's from myMP3 collection. (I really need to get an MP3 capable receiver for the car. [xx(] ) You need to ask yourself what you want. -
for starters you need software to burn cd or dvd with. Nero is what I recommend. A dvdr is 4.5gig so you can back up much more data. I make a seperate 4.5gig partition and that where I keep all my important data so it is very easy to backup. Make sure you get the right media there ia -r and +r some drive will do either but some won't.
If you want to copy a dvd get www.dvdshrink.org it is free and lets you compress a dvd down to the 4.5 limit or even smaller if you want. I rip the dvd to the hd and when I travel just watch it directly from the hd and leave the dvd reader at home. -
Thanks.. One more question. What can anybody say on the merits of burning dvds on notebooks in general? As you know it's a lengthy process (up to 30 min) and the computer gets quite hot. If I burn dvds often will I run the risk of shortening the life of my computer????

No. I generally wouldn'y be mass producing DVDs on a notebook, but you're not going to hurt it either.
