The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Hello all.

I'm attempting to migrate information about various Fujitsu models (older subnotebooks in particular) from the LeoG.net Ultraportable forum, which is now defunct. The LeoG forum was the best place to get this kind of information for these P-series, but now that it's gone, I've been in the process of saving bits of data here and there and archiving them to my website--old threads and file downloads. Hopefully, posting in another forum of this size will help people find the information/files more easily.

oion's gallimaufry: QND: LeoG.net Forum MINI ARCHIVE

    Models of interest:

    Fujitsu Lifebook
    P-1120, 103x, 15xx, 16xx
    P-2040, 2120, 2xxx
    P-5010, 5xxx
    P-7010D, 7120, 7230, 7xxx
    P-8010, 8xxx

(Thread archives will take a while, but the file archives are mostly done.)

Alrighty. I've uploaded over 40 threads of interest from the old LeoG.net forum, which admittedly isn't much out of the forum's history, but better than nothing. I've also finally separated the thread sections based on Fujitsu Lifebook model.

Let me know if you run across a broken link or something.

Thank you so much for doing this - I'm trying to resurrect my 1510D and install Windows7 and LeoG forum used to be so useful.

Of course. :) I can imagine the frustration of finding an appropriate Google result for a problem and then getting a dead page AND no Google cache...

Unfortunately, this is literally a race against time when it comes to sifting through the mass of information and saving the Google cache before it's cleared. I only ever fully mirrored one thread, and if I had more time after Leo's announcement, I would've mirrored more. Alas.

In your case, I think I have at least one other relevant P1510D/Win7 thread saved, and I'll keep uploading so long as I have time and the cache exists.

I do have his contact information from the forum still, though I doubt the forum could be resurrected. Here's the actual good-bye message:

Sadly, after 9 years, I have decided to close this forum. Initially, it was a very active Fujitsu computers. The world has moved on with the advent of i-stuff, netbooks etc. Meanwhile, the number of spam postings now exceeds the number of genuine postings by a factor of 10X.

Various strategies to curb the spammers have not worked and my day job does not give me enough time to spend on this anymore.

I will leave this post up for a few days to give notice and then close the forum. I have some ideas for the future of LeoG.net when I have more time, but it will not be a forum.

    With regret
    LeoG

While spam became a huge factor in closing the forum, the other reason is the diminishing interest in the subnotebook niche, which I bolded. Having been active on that forum for many years, I can attest to the declining activity as other laptop/tablets/netbooks/"i-stuff" etc. gained more market share.

(At the very bottom of my archived threads page is a long discussion about netbooks as they became more popular over the years. :D It's an inside look from the subnotebook vantage at that particular product.)

Per the spamming issue itself, I'm sure we could've gotten a couple of good mods (I wouldn't be able to since I work 12-hr days), but I think the forum would have been better served first with a software upgrade, which in itself would be a very big undertaking considering the age of the database.

see when the P7120 came out it was my dream laptop (not ultaportable, not netbook, to me this is what a laptop was meant to be) took me 4 years before i could afford one (second hand)! and then 2 months before i got it the best source of information on it closes down!

i have a number of google cache threads saved as well (50 odd), mainly relating to the P7120 and P7230, if you need any help in restoring threads let me know.

The first option i was thinking was to recreate all those threads in here with a "LeoG archive" prefix but not sure how admins will think about that.

I guess i can understand the lack of interest/discussion with these laptops but at least if the old articles could have been archived as a wiki and people directed to this site for forum discussion would have been great

By all means, if you have anything that you think will be helpful to folks looking for information/downloads, I'd be happy to add it to my website with a thanks to the archiver. I went through the Google cache a couple times, but it became very tedious.

Feel free to e-mail me at oion.net at gmail. (Any attachments should be zipped.)

I agree about the wiki/archival bit; even if LeoG just disabled the forum post/reply options somehow, at least all the information would still be available. His decision was very sudden.
