Does anyone know if there is a limit on how much RAM can bt used with the Mobile Intel® QS57 Express chipset?

This is what my P770 has. At this time, I have two pieces of 4Gb RAM installed, for a total of 8Gb. I would like to try an 8Gb memory module, to see if the laptop will support more than 8Gb total (using one 8Gb and one 4Gb will give me a total of 12Gb).

However, I don't want to bother if there is a hard limit on how much RAM the QS57 chipset will support.

I have done a few Googles on this chipset, and found lots of specs, but none of them mention memory at all.

    Anyone know?

    Thanks in advance!

The chipset has nothing to do with the memory these days. Your CPU has the memory banks. The maximum SODIMM module size is 8GB, so with 2 slots you can get 16GB. If you have 4 slots (some notebooks have 4 slots) you can get 32GB, but then you will need a version Windows (like Ultimate) that supports 32GB. Otherwise you are limited to 16GB.

I am running Win 7 Ultimate, and would like to see if my P770 would accept 8Gb SODIMM modules. The offical specs state that 8Gb is the max (2 X 4Gb), but I think it is worth a try.....the original specs for the P770 said that the max was 4Gb (2 X 2Gb), and that changed.
