Just some thoughts from me as i played around with the N3510 for a while today in a store.

It has the best screen i've seen (even better than Sony's XBrite). I had the N6010 and Toshiba M45 next to me, Fujitsu's screen is definetly better. Between the N6010 and N3510, the N3510 is better. Both had the same brightness, but the N3510 has a richer and more crisp colour producing screen (they both had the same wallpaper so i could compare properly).

With the built quality, this is a very solid machine. No flex in the case whatsoever, thanks to its mag alloy construction. The important thing is also when i applied pressure behind the screen, there was not pressure on the screen. However, i did find it quite a heavy beast! Compared to the M45, it was quite heavy! It looked and felt thicker as well, as seen in the metrics. The case seemed to have a coat of enamel paint or something similar, and IMO this should prevent wear and scratches. At first from looking at pictures i was worried that this would make it a fingerprint magnet but when seen and tried in real life, it had no such problems. With regrads to the flex in the keyboard, there should be no problems for most people. There was little flex when i applied a very heavy force which should not occur in normal typing. Now, about the touchpad. IMO, it should have been equipped with a wider touchpad especially when this has a 15.4" widscreen. I also found the scrolling button a little bit too small for my average sized fingers.

Now onto everyone's main issue, heat. Yes, this laptop does get quite warm. The left side palm rest area does get warm, but not enough to be uncomfortable IMO (the laptop had been on for 5 hours already). However, the bottom of the laptop does get really warm, probably too warm to be comfortable to have it working on your lap. In comparison, Toshiba really did solve heating problems that was present in the M3X series and the M45 was a lot cooler. The N6010 also seemed cooler (although i do not know how long it had been on for).

Im currently deciding between the Acer 8104 and this machine at the moment. Probably leaning towards the Fujitsu at the moment. Im located in Hong Kong and unfortunetly Acer HK decided not to import the 8103. I dont really think i really need the 2GHz processor and i am not a big gamer. Heat and weight seems to be the factor at this point. The good thing is that this store is willing to customise the Fujitsu for me while not breaking the warranty. Is an upgrade from 80GB 4200RPM to 5400RPM for around US$55 worth it? That was the quote i was given.

Overall i have been impressed with this new notebook from Fujitsu. The heat is probably the main issue with this notebook. Apart from that, it seems like a very good value notebook. I will post a full review if i do decide to purchase this notebook.

Nice overview, you sum up the situation well. As for the HDD upgrade, I'd jump on it for that price.

Brian, would you know what is the ETA of the full review for this notebook? I might want to hear a more in depth review before i jump into buying this. Oh, one more question for you. Did the notebook come with a free carrying bag?

    Thanks.

My N3510 didn't come with any carrying bag. But I bought a booqbag from booq.

Thats a shame. But i guess bags that do come free are never good anyways.

ChaosBlizzard, maybe you could do a mini review for us and note down all the bad points about this laptop. I probably didnt play with it long enough to realise any bad points yet except the ones noted above.

I am pretty good with stating my opinions.

As soon as I get this unit back this Monday/Tuesday. I will immediately start to formulate my full opinion.

I intended to write a review for epinions anyway.

It takes you that long to write a review? Or are you waiting for an N3510 to show up at your door?

I wrote the first thoughts, then it is going to another person for the full review. We like to cross train.
