    Hi all,

I'm finding my notebook to be a bit slow and laggy at the moment. By upgrading the hard drive to let say a 7200 rpm one, will there be much improvements over what i have now? a 100gb 4200rpm toshiba hard drive?

If yes to the above question which is the best 7200rpm 100GB+ hard drive you can get nowadays?

Will there be heat issues as well? cos it seems quite warm even with the slow hard drive of mine.

    Many thanks,

    Gary

A night and day difference. The 7200 drives do run a bit warmer. There are only two choices; Hitachi or Seagate. The Hitachi has a bit better performance. The Seagate runs a bit cooler and less noisy. Either is a great choice and will have markedly better performance than you current drive. Good Luck.

    Thanks Zaz,

So what exactly is the advantage of the Hitachi drive over the Seagate?

    What about price wise?

Also, are you able to give me exact model numbers for the respective brands? as I have no clue what the differences are between SATA and parralel drives or 12m/s and 8mb cache and all those sorts of stuff.

Cos you know those computer sales guys tend to sell you the the one where they have alot of stock or make most money out of if you don't know what you want.

    Thanks

It is a bit faster than the Seagate, but honestly probably not very noticeable in most situations. Go to Pricegrabber to find information on the models.
