I havene heard much about the E8020 and wanted to know whether anyone hashad any experiences with it? Im trying to deicde between the N3510 and the E8020 to use as a desktop replacement, carrying it to university once or twice a week. The lower model E8020 is priced similarly to the mid model of N3510. The E8020 is made by Fujitsu-Siemens, will built quality will lower?

Here are the specs of the similarly priced models:

    Fujitsu-Siemens E8020:
    - Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533 MHz FSB)
    - 15" SuperFine XGA TFT, 1024 x 768 pixels
    - 512MB DDR2 533MHz FSB
    - ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® 64MB X600
    - 80GB SATA
    - Modular Bay Drive: DVD Super Multi Drive

    Fujitsu N3510:
    - Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)
    - 15.4 Crystal View™ SuperFine Wide XGA TFT, 1280 x 800 pixels
    - 512MB DDR2 400MHz
    - ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® 64MB X300
    - 80GB PATA
    - DVD Super Multi Dual Layer Drive (Integrated)

Can you check them out in store? Cause the specs of the E8 seem better. + you have to decide if you want wide or standard screen!

What about weight? Are they the same? (The E8 we have here in the US is different-ATI 9700!)

I also like the fact that the optical drive of the E8 is modular, keeps possibilities open!

I will probably check these out in detail on the weekend. The E8020 is stated as 2.9kg while the N3510 is heavier at 3.4kg. I also like the fact the E8020 has a modular bay, you can swap it for a 2nd battery or a 2nd SATA HDD. However, i dont think the screen is "Crystal View". I've also read reports that the E8020 has terrible battery life.

With regards to the widescreen issue i am not sure. I am still asking myself whether i want a widescreen or a standard 4:3 ratio one. I guess the widscreen would be nice, but at 1280x800 is it possible to have 2 windows display side by side without scrolling horizontally to fully view the page?

EDIT: Are you sure the E8020 in the states has the ATI 9700? The E8020 is the alviso update to the E8010 model and should have a PCI-E graphics solution.

We still didn't get the E8020 here in the US, we only have the old E8010.

Your specs say that the scren is "SuperFine" which is the same thing as CV, just a marketing name.

At 1280 width you don't really have that much estate to have 2 windows side by side, think of it, it's only 40 more pixels in width more than XGA. For me at 1440 width, most of the times I cannot have 2 pages side by side without overlapping a bit. As long as you're not at 1600 pixels width its really hard to have side by side without scrolling or overlapping.

Yeh i was thinking 1280/2= 640pixels is not much width to display a page. But what is the main advantage of widscreen then? DVD viewing? or just a fashion thing?

I am having the same problem as well, deciding between the two. One area of concern is heat and battery life. I know both aren't very renown for their battery life.. but what about heat? some reviews of the older E8010 made it seem pretty bad (seem).. but the thing does seem to have alot of vents.
