I have been reading the topics about DDR, DDR2 and dual channel. Question: Will the N3510 from P1 come with DDR(400) or DDR2(400)?
I am trying to decide which will be cheaper to get, 1 512mg from P1 and 1 512 from crucial to have dual channel or just to be safe, 2 512mg from P1. The last choice would cost apprx. $30 more.

    Any ideas?

I am pretty sure its just 1 stick of regular boring DDR SDRAM single channel. DDR2 jacks up the price...

That is not correct, the N3510 ships with DDR2.

Thanks Brian, you are correct. I also emailed P1 and Ivan responded with DDR2 400 as what they ship the N3510 with.

Now I must decide how much mem. to get. 512mg or 1g ? Any suggestions?

    Thanks again.

I'd get 512MB on one card at the least. If you can afford more, certainly get it. 1GB would be great to have if you're doing anything more than office apps and internet.

    Whoops, my mistake [)]

Brian, how large is the difference from DDR2 400 and DDR2 533?

qwester, I heard the same story, but try comparing 512 DDR333 with 1GB DDR2 533 WITH A CHIPSET THAT SUPPORTS dual channeling.

I understand 1gb > 512mb but I want to know if the performance is that much....... becaus I am thinking of replacing my chip with two of those.

I refuse to believe dual channeling makes no difference whatsoever [ :p]

Oops forgot to include that during the test make sure teh DDR2 consists of two sticks of 512, therefore making sure dual channeling kicks in. If its just 1 stick then I understand there will be literally no difference, since its just the 333mhz vs 533mhz. Dual channeling is supposed to double the memory bandwidth. Sry for doubel post.

you can check for yourself at tom's hardware: http://www4.tomshardware.com/mobile/20050119/index.html
Bare in mind that the 2 cpus used for the test aren't of identical speeds 765= 100x21= 2.1Ghz; 770= 133x16= 2.13Ghz
and the difference is just too little to atribute it to the increased memory bandwidth.
    533 single = 4.2 GB/s
    533 double = 8.5 GB/s
    333 single = 2.6 GB/s

NOTE: in gaming benchmarks, the difference is mostly due to the improved GMA900 built in graphics! For true CPU/chipset improvment relly on encoding and compression benchmarks.
