    Hi,

At the moment my hdd is partitioned into 2 parts (c: & d: ) . I wish to format my c: drive and reinstall windows using the recovery cd that came with my N3510.

When I boot up the recovery cd, do i select the 'Format and Recover Hard Drive' option? This will only format my c: and reinstall windows right? I just want to make sure this will not wipe all my files on d:?

    Many Thanks.

After the 'Format and Recover Hard Drive' option it should list the different partitions and you can choose the one wich has to be formatted (you can also delete, add, ...)

    Thanks Celox.

I selected the 'Format and Recover Hard Drive' option and then it tells me about all the warnings how the hard drive would be formatted and the data would not be recoverable. It then asks me whether I agree or disagree to this procedure.

What happens after this? Does it let me select the partition I want to restore or will it start formatting my whole hard drive?

Im a bit worried because it says it will restore the hard drive back to factory state. Does this mean it will wipe all my partitions and restore the drive back to as it was when i bought it? i.e. One partition with windows on it?

    Many Thanks.

Has anyone else tried the recovery process?

Most recovery discs I have seen will format the whole drive. The fact it is not giving you any other options probably is not a good since.

You can download and use this live cd to partition and format your drive, then just restore to the c drive. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

You could also use a windows boot disk, if you are more comfortable with that.
