So far so good. Magnificent screen (no dead pixels). Plan to install 80GB/7200 drive in primary slot and move 80GB/4200 to 2nd hard drive slot with case I got from Port1. Has anyone done 2nd drive install?_pix?_things to watch for?

How does that work exactly? The second HDD would go into the optical drive slot? By the way, where are you getting the 80GB/7200rpm HDD from and if you don't mind me asking, for how much? What is the case you got from P1? (I assume that is where you bought the machine).

6210 is the Pentium M version of the old 6010 which uses Pentium 4. The 6010 had 2 fans and when they changed to Pentium M, they took away one fan, thereby, freeing up room for the 2nd HDD.

I think another member, TTTTada or something similar, did a 2nd HDD upgrade so you can search the forum or email him for details.

As aviator notes, there is an open space for second hard drive, not the optical drive slot. Got the 80/7200 at newegg. Yes bought the 6220 from port1 and also got the 2nd drive case from them.

    tttttada-you out there?

Is Hitachi known for making good quality hard drives? (For 7200rpm to be specific).

I know your chatting with waynet, tttttada, but regarding the laptop you have, I did not know that the N6210 came with ATi x600 128MB. It comes with integrated Intel graphics. Is that after-market? (Somehow).

the N6210 has always come with the X600, the N6110 comes with integrated graphics, it is the model with the white case, the N6210 has a black keyboard etc. the new N6220 comes with the X600 with hypermemory, but i believe with updated drivers the N6210 X600 operates with Hypermemory anyway

Oh okay. I mixed up with the S Series for some reason. There is no S series (the more mobile ones) with dedicated graphics is there?

Question for you about HDs. While customizing an S Series Fujitsu laptop, there are options for upgrading the HD capacity and speed. An up-to 80GB 5400rpm can be equipt, then for slightly more a 60GB 7200rpm one instead. Now, I understand those two are at comparible speeds for many different technical reasons, but my question is, the 4200 and 5400rpm hard drives are labeled 'Fujitsu xxgb, xxxxrpm', but the 7200rpm ones are labeled '7k60 60GB, 7200rpm' for the 60GB one, '7k80 80GB, 7200rpm' for the 80GB one and '7k100 100GB, 7200rpm' for the 100GB one.

It was mensioned that the 7200rpm hard drives listed above are supposbily NOT Fujitsu made and thus, don't fall under the same warranty category, even though it would be purchased with the actual machine. What make could this be? Some generic Hard drive that probably isn't reputable? Any info would be good.

[This comes as I am wondering if that marginal performance boost comming from a 60GB 7200rpm hard drive (unknown company in this case) appose to a 80GB 5400rpm one, is worth the additional heat and/or noise].

Yeah whatever happened to this thread? I seem to remember tttttada having a thread about updating a hard drive or a blog with pictures or something.

Is that still around? I haven't been able to find it if it is...

To answer Momo's question: the 'non fujitsu' brand 7k60 hdd will be covered by portable1 if you are getting the upgraded HDD through portableone at the time of purchase. That's what they told me anyway back when I bought mine. I would be surprised if they used a crummy brand HDD. That wouldn't be very like them.
