Ok, I know the 6210 is no lightweight, but how much real noticeable difference would there be between 10lbs (6210) and 7lbs (E8020).
I'll be living in Japan, and likely carrying it to the office, about 1/4 mile. I won't be doing any commuting on trains or buses with it, or bringing it anywhere else.
It will basically get carried to work and carried back, and be my main entertainment center while at home.
I've considered the E8020, but the downgrade of the screen in both quality and size seems like it would feel punitive (I use a 17 inch monitor at home now).
The N3511 has a weaker video card and I noticed considerable palmrest heat when I saw one at Fry's, so that one's out.
Basically, does anyone out there have a 6210 that they hate now because of the size and weight?
Or should I just suck it up and build some muscles?

Honestly, I think the weight difference isn't that big of a deal on such a short commute, though much longer and I'd give it up. Really depends on your build and whether or not that bothers you. I recommend putting a 10 pound weight in your pack along with whatever else you normally carry to get a feel for it.

I own a N6210 and to be honest, it is no lightweight. For me, the size bothers me more than the weight though. It's quite thick and generally big in all directions.
BTW if you can read Japanese here is a review of my N6210.
(It's a NX90L/W in Japan)

tada is right.. its the size that's an issue.. I think the N series might be a bit much for you to carry. the E8020 is also a bit on the heavy side too. I think the S series would be perfect but it seems that you want a graphics card. If that's the case.. I think you may have to look to IBM and ASUS for alternatives
-
Thinkpads are an excellent choice, but Asus support is non-existant in Japan. -
Thanks for the input!
Definitely want the video card and I really like the Fujitsu screen.
Also Fujitsu has an excellent reputation for quality and good warranty support in Japan.
IBM/Lenovo can't give me the same answer twice on whether a US model can be fixed in Japan.
Solutions sometimes pop up from nowhere.
I just found that a neighbor of mine has an HP Pavillion ZD8220, which is similarly sized and of similar weight...borrowed it for a walk around the block. Not as bad as I had thought. I also looked up the weight of my old Toshiba brick of yore and found that I had carried 8.9 lbs further almost every day!
And chances are it won't need to go to work everyday (possibly not at all in these days of thumb drives.) -
My N6010 stays at home on a table. In fact, I find it even too heavy and big to even put on my lap. I would really not carry this back and forth.
-
I have discovered that I will have access to a computer at work...so it can stay home.
Also, I should mention that I'm 6'3", and in good shape, so 10 lbs is not the problem for me that it might be for a person of smaller stature.
Heh. It's on the way. -
u could also put it in a nice carrying bag or something...a light one...so it would be easier to carry...or u could get one of those rolling notebook bags so u don't have to actually carrry it

I have no problem putting the 6210 on my lap either. No one should have problems with just 10 lbs on their legs; I mean, think about it, your legs contain the largest muscles in your body - even 30 lbs shouldn't be difficult. If someone does have a problem with 10 lbs, then they may have some underlying medical condition (pooled blood in legs, diabetes, etc).
And for furanku2 - yes, you do notice a difference between 7 and 10 lbs (it's almost 1/3 of the weight). I surely notice a difference even between my 8.1-pounder [HP] and the 10-pounder [Fujitsu]).
