I have a quick question. Is the N6210 bluetooth capable?
Thanks.

No, it isn't.
-
Thanks, tttttda... That's a big check on the downside column...
-
tttttdata, could you update us on your impressions of the 6210 so far? Went to look at one tonite at Frys - love that screen. Wish it had a better gpu. Also, the frys guy said the 2nd hard drive couldn't be added later unless returned to Fujitsu.?.?

Okay, here is my review of the N6210:
Reasons for buying
Throughout my 3-month process of researching, my top priority had always been reliability. I narrowed my choices down to: IBM T43, Asus W2V, Toshiba G25, and obviously the N6210. What set the Fujitsu apart was:
1)Fujitsu reliablity
2)Ten-key numeric pad
3)"The Screen"
4)1000Mbps LAN support
5)Overall balance of features (2xHDD, number of ports,Expresscard slot, etc)
After deciding to go with a DTR, portability/weight wasn't a factor.
The only downside of the N6210 was the graphics card (X600). I consulted my friend and he told me "That's ridiculous. Why play games on your laptop when you can play them on your PS2 and plasma TV." Case closed.
I bought the N6210 through Portableone and like others have mentioned, they are by far the greatest retailer I have dealt with. They are extremely helpful and deserve all the praise.
I got mine with the TV tuner, 7K60, and XP pro. The total came out to a little over $2400. Delivery took less than 10 days and the laptop was professionally packaged.
Pictures
Here are some pics.

Screen
Easily one of best attributes of this lappy. I was lucky to receive this laptop with no dead pixels, but FYI P1 will do a dead-pixel check for free if you ask prior to buying. The screen is bright and the colors are vibrant. But like it says here, there is a slight problem with the horizontal viewing angle:
http://gear.ign.com/articles/634/634113p1.html
" Noticed how we said "when you're sitting in front of it" though. The color definition comes at a price and that price is the viewing angle. You're able to see the screen from a fairly wide angle, so seeing something is fine, but the problem is that the further you move to the side, the more the colors fall apart. Off-white shifts to a light orangish-yellow, impure blues take on a green tint and everything just looks wrong. The change is almost immediate as you begin to move, and the further you go the worse it gets.
Basically, if you're sitting right in front of the screen it looks great. If you're not, it looks terrible. A tradeoff to be sure, and some folks may not mind it, but those who try and watch a video with you certainly will."
You could clearly see the whites turn yellow and blues turning green in my pictures. For me, this is a non-issue because I solely use this laptop for myself. The vertical viewing angles are great btw.
Heat/Noise
The left-side of the palm rest gets warm. Never to the extend of "hot" though. I never feel uncomfortable, even after hours of typing on this machine. Here are some measurements I took with Mobilemeter:
Stock Idle (Webbrowsing):
CPU 52C-56C
HDD 49C-51C
Gaming:
CPU 61C-66C
HDD 51C-53C
Idle with the laptop cooler (see pic):
CPU 47C-51C
HDD 40C-42C
I think the HDD runs a little hot because its a 7200RPM drive. From my research, I've found the 5K100 runs 3C-4C cooler. I would definitely get it with the 5K100 if i could do it over again.
As for the laptop cooler, I actually achieved around 5C lower for the CPU and 10C lower for the HDD. This cooler is only sold in Japan however.
The fan seems to be spinning constantly @ Low RPM. It is whisper quiet during idle. During games, the fan kicks in high gear and is quite audible.
Keyboard
I really can't comment on this because this is my first laptop. All I could say is that it gets the job done and I have no complaints. The Ten-key numeric is a great addition.
Gaming
My 3Dmark05 score was 1256 at default settings.
I'm sure I could get it into the high 1400s if I OC but I haven't seen the need to. The only game I've played is Rome:Total War and it played with no problems at the highest settings. No lags/delays.
TV Tuner
I've imported 20 hours of Tivo recorded programs through the Svideo jack and the quality is a lot better than I expected. It isn't DVD-quality but is definitely better than VHS tapes.
What surprised me is that the TV tuner did not come with a video-editing software. (other than the Windows Movie Maker POS). I had to purchase Ulead VideoStudio (which works great btw) on my own and was quite dissappointed in that regard.
Well, that just about wraps it up. Let me know if you have any further questions. :fujitsu: -
tttttada, if you wouldn't mind answering a few more questions about the N6210, I was wondering about its wireless capabilities. You mentioned in another thread that you were disappointed with the N6210 in this regard. Does the problem have to do with the issues that many seem to be having with speed drops and disconnections with Intel's 2915ABG and 2200BG? I'm expecting my N6210 to arrive soon, and it'll be my first laptop and first time going wireless, so I'm kind of lost and worried about it all as a complete newbie. I was wondering which router you have and whether it has been working well with your N6210. I know that the Intel problems people have been having likely aren't really from router compatibility issues, but I need to choose a router and would rather buy one that'll work with the N6210 than one that doesn't. Thanks very much in advance for any info or advice you can share about all this. (And thanks for posting pics and your impressions of the N6210 in response to waynet!)

sulizhen,
Actually when I made that prior post, I was using my "neighbor's network"Ever since I got my own Linksys router, it has been working like a charm. Sorry I've confused you. I really don't think its an issue.
FYI I have access to 12 "neighbor networks" with signal strengths of 1-4. I think the wireless range on this notebook is pretty descent. In my own apartment (which is a 3 bedroom) all of my roommates consistently get speeds of 54Mbps and signal strengths of no less than 4.
Hope this answers your question. -
tttttada,
thanks for clearing that up, and I'm glad to hear that your wireless has been working well for you with the linksys router. May I ask which exact one you have? Is it the WRT 54G or the WRT 54GS (with SpeedBooster)? I wasn't sure which one I should be getting, which is why I ask. -
I just got the regular WRT54G, so i really can't comment on the speedbooster feature.
-
Thanks for your quick reply! Good to know that the regular one works just fine. I think I'll save a few bucks and stick with the WRT54G. Thanks again so much for your help.

About the atheros card ... I just love it. The software is the best thing I have ever seen, I love all the tinkerings you can do with it. Range, I guess it is good, I say I guess, because my building has 2 routers on each floor with extended range antennas (internet provided by residence), so it's hard to not get a signal, and I guess it is almost the same at university
Nice mini review tttttada. On the screen issue, I never had a problem with the viewing angle, even during the few times I was watching a movie with a friend, maybe with lights dimmed and brightness on max the issue becomes less apparent!
On the keyboard. I consider myself an extremely extremely picky person when it comes to keyboards (desktop/notebook), and I just love this thing, no problem typing for hours, and the layout is a 4/5 for me, just because of the arrow/directional keys, I always press the wrong ones when not lookin. I think their position is a bit unnatural, and I couldn't get used to it, other than that everything about it is great.
On Portable One. You gotta love their service. They exchanged my screen no Qs asked (in the shortest time possible ... A FEW HOURS!), because at the time, mine shipped direct from Fujitsu and hence no screen check was done, and I was unlucky enough to get 2 stuck pixels!
The N6000 line is simply great IMO
BTW tttttada, that HDD temp is a bit steap, mobilemeter now reports mine at 42C. It usually never gets higher than 44C with the minor "every now and then access", and never saw it jump over 50C even with heavy access ... maybe the cooler is a good idea to have to preserve your HDD! How much is your ambient temp? -

What form of networking do you have on your desktop (wired/wireless)?
If it's only a one time major transfer of files the "speed boost" might be an over kill. 54mbs (g) should allow you to transfer your 15GB well within 2 hours.
If your desktop is wired only (or wireless b, which will be very slow for file transfer), you might want to consider getting a "cross over" network cable. This cable can be used without a HUB, and only costs a few bucks at stores like Radio Shack.
*** I am not familliar with the router that you were discussing earlier, but I guess it does have wired network ports! At which point the cross over cable becomes useless to you.
After this it's just a matter of setting up a network. You can find some guides and be helped with that in the networking section on this forum. -
for qwester/tttttada, can you comment on the 2nd hard drive situation, that is, can the 2nd hard drive be added later? thx again
-
Right now, I'm waiting for the 100GB 7K100s to become available and affordable in the market. I really need the size but wouldn't want to downgrade in speed to a 5K100. And also, like qwester has mentioned, my HDD temp is a little high. I heard the new 7K100s have addressed this problem.
Waynet, have you purchased the N6210 yet? If I could do it over, I probably would of configured it 5K100x2 or 7K60 + 5K100. -
Gotta get ground truth on this hard drive business because I already have 2 7K60's which I could use with the 6210. I'm also hoping at some point (soon) Fujitsu may upgrade the GPU, 6310? -
Highly doubt an upgrade anytime soon. Fujitsu are extremely slow to refresh a model. The current N6000 was released end of June, so that will be at least 6 month wait. (The N6010 was refreshed 9 month after initial release!)
Cannot comment about dual HDD. Mine takes only 1, and haven't had the chance to see a 6210. BTW I bought mine originally with a 4200RPM (toshiba) drive, and then did the upgrade ... I noticed no temp change between the 2 ! -
