Some pix follow showing second hard drive and NEC 6650 DVDRW installation for N6220. I got the Hitachi 80GB/7200rpm from Newegg and installed it in primary slot, then did a restore. Placed the OEM 80GB/4200rpm drive in 2nd hard drive slot, then reformatted.

    1. Remove power and battery.
    2. Remove access panel...the one which surrounds the RAM access panel.
    3. Optical drive replacement. One of the 2 screws which anchor the optical drive is removed with the access panel. The second can be accessed when the panel is removed. Transfer the anchor plate shown here on the right drive to the replacement, then reinstall.
    4. (Optional) Remove primary drive and reinstall replacement.
    5. Mount secondary drive in drive carriage shown here (purchased from Portable One) along with drive.
    6. Mount drive carriage/drive into 2nd hard drive slot shown here . The 2 screw holes just left of the drive slot are the ones noted above which anchor the optical drive.
    7. Button everything up and restore if primary drive was replaced or let winxp detect secondary hard drive and/or optical drive.

I already had a NEC6650 (using with my Dell 8600) so I ordered the 6220 from Port1 with the CDRW drive to save a few bucks from their price which includes the DVDRW.

I think N6220 have the same optical drive than NX8220.

waynet : did you acheive your DVDROM -> DVDRW replacement without changing the faceplate ? do you think this mod can be achieved on a NX8220 / NC8230 usgin a generic DVDRW drive ?

had to switch the faceplates - the grey Dell faceplate just wouldn't do on the fuji; not familiar with NX8220/NC8230

Can anybody suggest a place to buy one of those Drive Carriages now that P1 no longer sells Fujitsu computers?

I've spent half the day trying to track one down and am having no luck...
