I'm looking to buy a new notebook computer for $1000-1500 US with the following minimum requirements:
2.6-2.8 GHZ Pentium 4 processor or equivalent
30-40 GB hard drive space
15 in screen
512 MB RAM
CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive
802.11b/g wireless capability
I'll be using it for word-processing, internet surfing, CD-burning, and some basic photoshop work. Portability, battery life, and gaming capability are less important.
In my limited search, I've come across 5 computers that more or less meet these requirements:
Dell Inspiron 5150
Fujitsu C2240
IBM Thinkpad G40 2388
Sony VAIO K13
Toshiba Satellite A45-S250
I've never heard of Fujitsu until recently, but looking over the various posts in this forum it seems to come very highly recommended. I was wondering if any of you Fujitsu owners can provide input on...
1) how their notebook computers stack up against the other more visible (at least to me) brands in the US
2) how good is their support?
3) what is the best way to buy one? I've checked out their website and they have various sales offices in California, one within driving distance. Can I order one directly from them and pick it up there? Or do I have to wait for it to be mailed to me? Would you recommend ordering directly from the company or going through a retailer like PC Mall or Frye's?
With so many options, it's pretty hard to decide! The 5 I've listed are all pretty close in features and price, so what I care most about is build quality, reliability and support. Furthermore, are their any other computer brands you would recommend?
Thanks for your help

i have to recommend the c-series. i've been using mine for over 3 years now i think, and it's running fine for the most part. i'm having some hard drive problem with it right now, but it actually hasn't done it in almost a month now. it's a computer good enough that after 3 years i still go to online college with it-- that's what i think of fujitsu reliability.
i'm personally holding out hope that fujitsu will be coming out with a 64 bit notebook soon, but for what you're looking to do, i don't think you can beat the quality and good looks of a fujitsu.
Need help in deciding which notebook to buy
