AWESOME!!
I have been waiting FOREVER for Fujitsu to finally release a mainstream 13.3 widescreen notebook! -
...I know...dannon916...same here
......the specs sound great.....but on one german site it was mentioned that it would cost around 2000 EURO (OUCH
......no word from fujitsu regarding cost yet so i am keeping my fingers crossed
-
Yeah, hopefully it won't be outrageously expensive. I am looking at the Toshiba U305 and Dell XPS M1330 too. Don't care much for the Sony SZ since it has a lot of issues.
Don't mind paying a bit more for the Fujitsu but not too much more. Always been a big fan of their well built laptops. -
Same here...i love Fujitsu.....espically their Lifebook SXXXX ..They are made in japan....(better QC
)....currently i have a S7010 and love it!
-
M1330 dosen't have a docking station...so i am not considering it......i like to use my big 24" wide screen when i am at home
-
Fujitsu already selling S6410 in Australia. The price is about AUD 2,700 for C2D T7500 2.2/2GB RAM/160GB HDD/Vista or XP, including free port replicator, mouse and carry case. I am going to get one soon!
BTW, the only decent review I could find is in Chinese (hard to understand but lots of pics): http://translate.google.com/transla...=2&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq=s6410&hl=en -
damn....the translation dose suck lolz..................but nice laptop
-
Please do a review once u get it
-
Ordered S6410 today, will pick up this Saturday. Will post few pics once I get it.

Some more info on the Singapore website:
http://www.fujitsu.com/sg/services/computing/pc/products/notebook/s6410/ -
It seems that asian version I am getting does not include UMTS/HSUPA advertised on the European site:
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/products/mobile/notebooks/lifebook_s6410.html
Also asian version is all black.
The weight is almost 2 kg in with the optical drive (200 g), even more with additional battery. Still, only about 300 g more than my 10'' P5010. -
Wow, that looks sweet, but man alive, I'm really waiting for the 13.3" laptop to have a WXGA+ or SXGA+ display.
-
Any news?
I've just posted a poll in the "which laptop should I buy" section. I am hesitating with the dell M1330...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=143962 -
Hi, I have my S6410 now, so if you have questions please ask. I am not good in writing reviews
Overall my impressions are very very positive, this is the machine I wanted! -
It looks like you are the only one on this forum with this laptop so yes, I have plenty of questions.
I guess you got the 6410p...with vista and 2gb RAM??
What is the brand/model of the hard drive?
Did you get the modular battery?
What is you battery-life doing normal tasks with wifi with the main battery (and with the modular battery if you have it)?
Did you get the wireless-n wifi (4965agn)?
Does it feel sturdy?
Did you consider the M1330?
I would have liked a 7200rpm hard-drive and a HDMI output (It seems there is not even a dvi output!)...
Modular bay, spill resistant keyboard, HDD with shock sensor are great...
Any other things I should know?
Cheers!
..And thanks for responding to my poll! -
1. Are you able to post pictures? (post as many as you'd like)
2. How is the keyboard? Does it have any flex when you press on the keys?
3. How is the heat of the notebook? Does it get warm/hot in any particular areas?
4. How is the fan noise?
5. How is the build quality? Does it feel sturdy?
Thanks in advance and I hope you enjoy your new notebook. -
Mine is S6410P in standard configuration Fujitsu sell in Australia: C2D T7500 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 160G 5400 SATA HDD, DVD DL recorder, 13.3" WXGA Screen with LED Backlight, 802.11 a/b/g Wireless, Bluetooth etc. There is no 3G and no "N" wireless. It comes with port replicator, carry bag and a corded optical mouse. Price I paid is AUD $2650.
Fujitsu still offers choice when it comes to OS and I decided on XP Pro. This is my primary development machine and I can't afford to lose time if something won't work with Vista.
I have been using Fujitsu P5010 for 4 years and it is great little laptop. But it become too slow for all software I need and the screen is too small to work comfortably. When I started looking for new laptop I wanted power and larger screen. At the same time I didn't want to carry anything heavier than 2 kg.
I was looking at Vaio SZ, M1330 and then I learned about the new S6410. Since I was happy with P5010 it was an easy decision for me.
I have been using S6410 for few days so far and seriously don't have anything to complain about.
Visually it is very slim, thinner than P5010. Doesn't feel any heavier either. I didn't use other brand laptops so can't really compare, but the build quality is very good in my opinion, it feels more solid than P5010. It does feel sturdy and don't make creaking noises. The plastic surface can get dirty with fingerprints, this wasn't the case with P5010 maybe because it is silver.
The screen is much thinner and can be twisted by about 5 mm if pushed by the corner. I used to open the P5010 lid by pulling by the corner up, I better don't do this with S6410. Screen is very bright, I set brightness to 5/8 (P5010 to max).
Keys are larger than P5010 and I think the pitch is slightly bigger. My hands are not big and P5010 keyboard was perfect for me. Hopefully I will get used. Keyboard has a little bit flex in the middle, I can see it bend down by maybe 0.5 mm if I press especially N button.
Everything I tried was working as expected (haven't tried Bluetooth or DVD burning yet).
On the first charge the battery lasted 3 hours with wireless on and constant HDD access (I was downloading and installing updates). At the moment the battery meter showing 79% (3:17 hours) remaining. I would expect it to last about 4 hours under normal tasks. This is enough for me and I don't think I need bay battery.
Hard drive is 160Gb Fujitsu MHW2160BH SATA. Feels much quicker than HDD in P5010. I was surprised how quick Office and Visual Studio installations were completed.
HDD is broken into 2 equal size partitions. There is no recovery partition, recovery discs are provided. By default only Fujitsu utilities and DVD recording software was installed, I didn't have to uninstall anything.
Sensor shock utility is interesting. I only need to shake laptop slightly for it to kick in. It is good to have additional protection.
I didn't run any CPU intensive processes yet but even compared to P5010 this laptop runs cooler. The warmest place is in the bottom under the touchpad and it is only barely noticeable. The fan is off during all the time I was typing this. It went on few times when I was installing software but I don't think it was any noisier than P5010.
Hope this helps. I tried to make photos but they come up blurry and yellowy so I given up. I would recommend this photo gallery instead, their photos are much better: http://product.pcpop.com/000053580/Picture.html
Overall, I am very happy. I think I've got exactly what I wanted. -
Thank you very much! That was very helpful!
I am still undecided but I should say I am leaning towards the M1330...
I think I prefer hdmi/wifi-n/HDD7200rpm to modularbay/shocksensorHDD...and I prefer white. My main concern was about the Nvidia graphic card. The integrated graphics is not available for the M1330 in NZ (same as in Australia as I've just seen) but it looks like it could be set to "low power mode" using the Nvidia software coming with the laptop to save battery-life.
The delivery time of the 2 laptops should be about the same (the s6410 is only on POA here) and the M1330 is slighty cheaper with the same specs...
The only unknown for me is how the quality of the lifebook compares with the one of the M1330 and which one will be the more reliable...but we'll only know this in 2 years time I guess!
Cheers -
Thanks for the review. I am hoping the S6410 released here in the states can be configured to let us use XP instead of Vista. But I may just end up getting a pre-configured store model if its a little cheaper, will probably have Vista on it though.
-
Just a followup after few days: there are 2 minor things that annoy me about S6410:
1. Its black plactic surface is a "fingerprint magnet", especially on the outside, it is not looking pretty now all covered with spots.
2. Display is having issues with viewing angles and contrast. This is a disappointment because WLED screen was one of the reasons I got this laptop. I was expecting much better screen in S6410, in fact it is worse than P5010.
Overall I still think it's a good machine and I am very happy with portability, performance and battery life. -
hi,
does this lappie have an option of playing multimedia (DVD/pics/music) without booting into the OS a la' some toshibas/dells/HPs? Quickplay or something?? -
Arevee, no.
-
Does anyone know if there are plans for this S6410 to be released in the US? If so, when?
All info is truly appreciated!
Thanks in advance! -
Yeah, I'm wondering when it will come out. I thought it was coming out on the 26th (today) but I guess not.
-
There is a discussion of the s6410p on http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=785377
They are available in Australia but supplies are a bit short at present -
When and where did you hear the Fujitsu was coming out on 7/26 in the US.
Any and all info is truly appreciated!
Id like to know as well!
Thanks in advance! -
How much does the Black version cost with LED lighting?
-
With the aboved mentioned specs from andrey at $2650 AUD, it should be $2248 US dollars. Ouch!
Hopefully there will be a no frills base model (maybe no LED, 1GB ram, and integrated graphics) around $1500 which I "may" get. -
Did some searching around sites that are selling it in Australia. The cheapest preconfigured model will be $2014. Out of my price range.
-
Danno, don't look at australian prices, US prices may as well be cheaper.
Don't forget, the price includes 10% tax. Customers in AU are regularly being ripped off almost on everything in electronics and computers. -
Hmm...I did not know that but thanks for sharing the info. Still waiting on this laptop for release here.
I'm considering other Fujitsu's too now (14, and 15 in) since one of my classes got cancelled and I won't have to bring the laptop to campus as often.
-
Just had a play with this notebook at a store. Looks good, and I love the specs. Might visit again to decide if to buy it. -
Just purchased this notebook a few days ago... more to come!
-
Come on DTX, stop teasing
-
I checked out the S6410 yesterday, and with T7300 + 2GB RAM config it is really fast. However, the screen sucks big time. Even at the brightest settings, the colors look washed out and dull. Not too impressed with the build quality either. The strip on top of the speakers seemed to be slightly uneven...don't know if it is a design 'feature' or a QC issue.
The Toshiba M600 looks to be a better option with each passing day. -

It seems that Fujitsu had cut some corners on S6410 LCD. Shame because i am really happy with everything else.
-
Can you guys tell me how to test these wash out colours and problems? To me, just glancing at the LCD, it is at least better than the FE38GP I got last year. It is on par with my W3J. There is of course some leakage at the bottom. Tell me what to look for, how to look for it, and I will see if I get the same problems with my S6410.
Having said that, I have mine hooked up to the Dell 2407 Widescreen LCD most of the time, so I dont get to see the mentioned problems. -
Overall, its a very nice notebook. Weighs 1.6 kg without the DVD drive and weight saver. My W3J weighs more than 2.2 kg (Max on a kitchen scale!) without the DVD drive and weight saver.
Battery life can reach 3 hours easily, the W3J struggles to even get that far. -
On my screen if you look at it slightly from the top, colors get whiter and if you look from the bottom they get darker. If would not be a big problem as obvioulsy I can adjust the screen, but the vertical angles are so narrow that even when I look at the screen dead straight (and sit close enough) the top of the screen looks darker and bottom is whiter.
After reading this forum I realize now that many other laptop screens do this to some extent, it was just I was expecting much better screen from Fujitsu after owning P5010 which has excellent screen. -
I will test this out with my other notebook soon and compare. -

The X3100 is...erm.... not a gaming graphics card!!! -
I'm looking into the S6410P because I actually want integrated graphics (it should run cooler and quieter without a VPU & fan). How do you rate the noise and heat anyway? I want my next laptop to be barely audible in a silent room (ie when sleeping). Does this laptop fit the bill? -
As for the X3100, I am happy that it supports DX10, and is miles better than the GMA 950. Gaming is for the Xbox 360! -
Some pictures:
Geez, the flash really exposes the dust to the power of 100! I can tell you that its not that dirty, its just the flash that does it!
You can see the docking station that comes with the notebook in the background, and hooked up to a Dell 24" incher!
No the most accurate way to measure a notebook, since it uses some very flimsy plastic, and a weak spring. This is the whole weight of the notebook, including the drive and battery.
This is the weight without the drive, that is, I have taken it out, and have not replaced it with the weight saver, which you have to buy seperately. -
Nice pics DTX
Had more read on the screen issues and viewing angles around this forum and now I think that S6410 screen is actually pretty good compared...
Lesson learnt: I won't buy my next laptop before I had a chance to properly test the screen - from all angles. -
