According to Fujitsu, they will not be offering any driver support for Vista. Their support team claims that the N6010 is not a "Vista Capable" machine. This is just one more reason I will never buy another Fujitsu product. According to Microsoft, the N6010 is a "Vista Premium" machine. I've run Vista since RC1 and the only problem is driver support. Except for a couple of Fujitsu specific drivers, Vista runs fine even with Aero enabled. This is just another example of Fujitsu not caring about their customers after the sale. They have not had one bios update since I purchased the N6010. I just checked their support site and these are the only drivers they are offering:
Eligible Models all Fujitsu LifeBook® notebooks and Tablet PCs that carry the Vista Capable PC logo.

Fujitsu is really missing its strides lately in the notebook market, and this is a further dissapointment. Sorry to hear it. I once owned a Fujitsu 3 years ago (S6020) and liked it a lot, but nothing since then has been enticing. They're also really missing the boat by not offering any integrated WWAN on any notebook and I just saw a roadmap for next generation machines and still don't include that in even their business ultraportable series. Boo.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I'm using a Fujitsu n6010 myself, and to this day, I have yet to find a perfect driver for my Graphics Card. Realy bad drivers for this notebook. Too bad though, cuz I really love this machine, it's worked wonders for me. I've even upgraded my memory and hard drive and this thing is just a monster now.
My next laptop will most likely be an Asus A8Js.... -
yeah I have to agree, it is really unbelievable that they wouldn't offer drivers for the later N6000 models.
they make good computers but they are missing so much when it comes to really focusing on being a Computer company, which is really unfortunate. They just are a huge company in electronic technology in general, i wish there was a greater focus on just being a computer company as well.
there reasoning is absolute ********, these computers could so easily run vista without a hitch. Since i got my N6210 i have absolutely loved it, but honestly, I don't know if I will be going with a Fujitsu again when it is time for me to get another computerunless they get a little more excited about being a computer company.

I might have to make a few addition to my review of my laptop
I wonder if it is worth complaining to Fujitsu about this?

That's bollocks! <tee hee I beat the profanity filter! British words are so funny!> I have no plans to upgrade to Vista, but I'd've liked to have the choice. I think the way they see it, they're not selling that many laptops to worry so much about support.
However, that's THEIR fault! They're totally not capitalizing on what they have! Their market penetration is poor because no one even knows that they exist! They only have laptops in 4, 4!!! small stores/chains in the US. If they had more laptops in stores, people would see how beautiful these machines are and snap them up. I've a feeling that the person that made the decision to do the least possible in the notebook department got promoted into his position cause no one else wanted to work with him... You know, the Dilbert principle... This completely reminds me why I hate business, and why I quit my comfy job to go back to school. ARrrrgl;aksjg;lkdjsflkdjf!!!

P.S. I still don't see myself with another computer. It's just sooo beautiful... But maybe, by the time I'm in the market again, which won't be soon, the notebook market will be large enough for mfrs to start really caring about how pretty they make their laptops, darnit! And then, watch out, Fujitsu! :shakes fist in anger: -
i completely agree ^^^ Fujitsu just doesn't realize what they have in this situation.
-
Alright, I have to admit to being a blindly loyal Fujitsu fanboy only because I've loved my n6010 from day one. And since the hardware is so good, I've never had to deal with Fujitsu (the company)... until recently. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Once bitten, twice shy I believe is the saying.
It pains me to think about it, but when it comes time to replace my trusty n6010 it will probably be a non-Fujistu. -
Why not stay with Fujitsu and use an authorized repair shop if a repair is needed?

Buy fujitsu and run Linux
Problems solved, for me anyway.
-
they really have no reason not to provide the drivers, I think it is worth complaining honestly.
-
I came back to revisit this thread and I'm glad that I'm not the only one who views this as a major problem. Maybe, just maybe, if enough of us complain they'll re-think this strategy. But having dealt with their support in the past, I very seriously doubt it. I mean, just take a look at the updated drivers section since this notebook was released. They're basically the same drivers that shipped with the laptop. There hasn't even been one bios update the entire time. I guess they view their laptops as disposable.
-
believe it or not fujitsu still does make alot of profit and is a big market compare to other brands ones. Now I don't remember where I read that anyway so can't link it. They are worldwide and have 3 branch, fujitsu, fujitsu siemens, and fujitsu that makes only japanese notebook biblo series.
I agree no drivers are offered for vista even some older models that are released with no "core duo" which is a big complain.
But one way you can give it a try is to download vista drivers from later series of N6410 but only limited to a few such as pointing device. Some of the other drivers such as video card can still be download from ati and while wireless from atheros. Just not sure about the Tv tuners, hotkeys and application panels. -
It is dealt with strategic issues the company has taken. Since the company is large enough it is very unlikely they will change the policy about Vista upgrade for some models.

well...to be fair, it seems like most other notebook manufacturers are not supporting their older models with pentium m in them. hell, some aren't even supporting their models with core duo inside (e.g. asus v6j).
-
Just bypass the OEM (Fujitsu) and get the latest Vista drivers for your hardware from the silicate vendors themselves; Atheros, ATI, etc. While Fujitsu may not be supporting, certifiying and distributing Vista drivers that does not mean that the hardware component vendors are not providing Vista product support. I know ATI is working to get Vista drivers out for all their hardware so look up you manufacturer and the hardware you have then download the corresponding drivers once you have installed Vista. I have a 2.5 year old Fujitsu N5010 which with a 3GHz processor and 2GB RAM is more than adequate to run Vista.
-
How did you know which harware manufacturer made your laptop or who to check for
drivers?
THANKS! -
