    Hey,
just about to buy the Fujitsu Lifebook S7011 and found out that it doesn't have a port replicator for docking station.
Would anyone recommand anything as an alternative or shall I just get another model?

I heard about the USB2 port replicator, but I wonder if it still works even if the laptop's screen is closed?

    Thanks for your advises,

    .David.

As long as you change the power setting of "When I close the lid of my portable computer:" to "Do Nothing" it will work just fine.

If I am not mistaken Fujitsu have no docking stations for any of their models, they just have this usb docking solution.

I honestly don't see the point in a full fledged docking station any more. All you have are 3-4 plugs, unless you're in and out a bunch, I think the USB extender is fine.

As the S7010 includes a docking port, one would just have to sit it there and not have to plug in an external usb hub and monitor.

Where do you see that model advertised? The one on Fujitsu and P1's web sites is the S7010 and there is a port replicator for it (part #FPCPR48AP).

drw, the S7011 is available in asia and I guess Australia since that's where davidbayon's stats show he is from. This is an upgrade that we never got here in the USA, or actually got part of and kept the old number [ :p]

I'm using S7011 as well, and you can get the port replicator as well. It uses the same one as S7010 series. But it kind of looks ugly. Have a look at it.

what is this usb2 port replicator? Anyone got a link to its specs/connections and a picture?

Also, sutheep you say there's a port replicator for the s7011? There isn't a port replicator socket in the notebook though...?

I'm after a DVI connector for an external LCD monitor...i'd hate to use the VGA...

Bah, there are several of these on the market, Fujitsu has one on their site. It just offers a few USB ports, VGA and a couple other options. There is no VGA to DVI though on any of them.

had a look at the s7011 today, the place where the port replicator is support to plug into and there's a cover there, it can't be removed, so im pretty safe to assume there's no connector under there.

the specs on the cnet asia site are quite often wrong :(

if you can bring yourself to wedge open that covered up area to check whats under there where the s7010 port replicator port is, please let me know :)

i thought all fujitsu's were the same in the Asian-Pacific region. ie. Singapore and Australia

Anyway, I called Fujitsu Australia and they confirmed no the s7011 cannot use the s7000 series port replicator as there is no port :(

The new s7021 specs on the asia/singapore cnet site also says the s7021 has a port replicator, but somehow I doubt it'll end up with it :(
