I've had my S6231 for about a year now, and love it. Just recently, about 2 days ago, it started making a noise that makes it sound like the hard drive is being accessed all the time. If i turn the laptop on its side of vertically, the noice goes away.
It isn't loud, but is annoying enough. It is pretty much continuous noise when the computer is sitting normally on a table.

I assume it is a fan tha tis either going bad, or is scraping something. Anyone open one of these up yet? How easy would it be to change the fan? Any other ideas as to what it could be?

the hard drive light/indicator on te LCD isn't lit when it is making the noise..so i don't think it is the HD..but it may be, i don't know.

    thanks
    jason

Just an update. Turns out the noise was my hard drive. I assume a bearing is going bad. Either way, i had enough time to back it up. Bought a new 60gig toshiba 5400 to replace it.

Anyone know how the warranty will work on that standard drive? Are they going to give me crap b/c i removed it myself? IT is less than 1 year old.

You'll probably have to put it back in and send the entire machine in. Fujitsu does not consider the HDD a user replaceable option.

Why didn't you get the drive replaced by Fujitsu?

I didn't get it replaced by fujitsu because i need my laptop every day. Sending the whole computer away for a week or more is not really an option.

Makes sense now I remember how picky Fujitsu is on drives.
