Should I invest on the extended 3 year warranty for a Fujitsu computer purchased through P1? What's their service like? Do they pay for the shipping costs back and forth? Any personal experience based complaints/compliments?

I bought a 2 year service plan for my current laptop through Circuit City and their service was pretty good; they sent me a box and it was free shipping both ways when I sent something away for repair. I paid 199.99 for the service and I used it twice, once for them to replace my DVD/CDRW drive and the other to fix my memory (it got weird and was only running on 192MB of RAM even though it was supposed to be 512MB total, they fixed it back to 512MB)... did I get my money's worth?

I think that you probably won't need the extended warranty with a fujitsu unless you plan to frequently run your notebook long, hard and HOT. My prof. has killed a couple of ibooks that way. All the posts I recall are that the fujitsus are mostly perfect out of the box and the few problems people have posted about are generally resolved quickly.

You could contact P1 and ask them the details about their plan if what they post on their site doesn't answer your questions. They are customer friendly.

I must say, I had my first poor experience with Fujitsu's tech support.

I sent my laptop in for repair, and now it's in worse condition than when I first purchased it, and I've only had it for about 5 months. They are refusing to fix the issues I have. I'm going to contact the BBB to see if I can get this resolved.

I hope this is an anomaly with their tech support since I absolutely love my laptop

p.s. you have to pay for shipping to the depot.

Inky, my profs notebook wasn't just on and downloading. He was running finite element models all the time, which kept his processor pegged for extended periods of time (like overnight, I think he said). At any rate, after lots of this some connection on the motherboard melted. Happened twice. So, I bought the 3-yr warranty since I need to use my machine the same way.
