If you upgrade to the 7200RPM Hitachi TravelStar hard drive, P1 charges $190 and doesn't give you the original drive back! The Hitachi drive only costs $149 at most mail order houses. Even purchased from P1, its only $179.
This should cost less than $100 (the price difference between the original and upgrade part).
I don't work here; I'm a consultant.

I noticed the same pricing problem at P1.
I called and spoke to Victor at P1. He was quite nice and agreed that the pricing was unreasonable. He told me that he would check with management and get it corrected. Management decided to keep the inflated pricing.
I wanted to give my business to P1, but their pricing is just not competitive with bigger vendors - like JR and Datavision - I guess that's why JR is so much more successful.
If P1 management changes their mind, I will be sure to post here and let everyone know. -
BFE, this forum is for discussing P1 notebooks, not their prices for Fujitsu upgrades. Moving this thread for you.

John, looks like you spoke to a Mr.Reyes about upgrading a 7K60 hard drive upgrade on a Fujitsu Lifebook and that upgrade has to be done by Fujitsu factory certified engineers here or Fujitsu will void the warranty, they are very strict about that only Fujitsu and/or their ASPs can do the upgrade without rendering the warranty null, and not too mention that with every one of those upgrades we throw 3yr advanced replacements on the drives if they fail, so people do not have to wait weeks to get replacements, plus they are re-imaged with the latest factory OS. Plus when the engineers are performing these upgrades they also inspect machines for the customers too and fix anything else that may not be perfect. We have always been the best value in the business for the products we offer, some companies give you $100 off or so but we give free upgrades and additions that far surpass those small monetary discounts, plus we fully support everything going way beyond what Fujitsu will do most of the time, other companies just move inventory and do not support the product and if you have any issues you have to take it up with Fujitsu etc. Your conversation yesterday with Mr. Reyes caused quite a stir, which I am glad, because we got to educate other phone personnel internally that did not quite know how to clarify everything so thanks~

I called Fujitsu technical support. They said that the 7200RPM HD upgrade voids the warranty, regardless of who installs it.
Can you provide any documentation from Fujitsu that this is an approved configuration and does not void the warranty? -
Fujitsu 800# support (Onstream) is trained to say that, they will even say that even if you upgrade memory, ay sort of mod. We have been doing this for 8 years and are Fujitsu's number one dealer in N. America for 7 years now. You are trying to find something wrong with us for some reason which I do not understand[?]

Your right it costs more to get upgrades done by a certified dealer, but P1 aren't the only ones with this issue. That is becuase having certified personal performing upgrades costs, and that's what you pay for.
Personally I am a "do it yourself" guy, and would rather pay less and have things done by me. But I do fully understand the reasons for such pricing.
+ BFE, you stats says your in Slovakia (unless that's a camouflage []), so what do you care, we Americans like to pay more and get screwed ... just kidding.

people have to make profit to run their businesses.

Almost any vendor will take more on HD/RAM upgrade then what it will take to do it yourself .
I've seen a Toshiba HD upgrade option for 400$ !!! with which you could buy same 2 HD and keep the original ..
So P1 is not to be blamed here . I'm just suprised the 7k60 will viod the warranty since that what I planned to do once I'll order . ( I already installed one in my Satellite and its at least 20% cooler the my old 4200 )

I have been working with IvanG at P1. He has been very consciencious and helpful.
At this point, we have arrived at an agreement and I am now waiting for my notebook to be delivered (Fujitsu S2631 with the 7K60 upgrade).
I will certainly post regarding the delivery and out-of-box experience.

I found Ivan to be very helpful. I had a wonderful out-of-the-box experience dealing with Portable One. I trust you will have the same. Regards, Ace [8D]

Can I buy the HD from portable one, now is 169.00 (good price right)
install by myself and what do I do after? Install is the easy part for me. Is possible to do a clone of everything I have and transfer for the other cd? Using a software? Do I have to format the HD?
Or maybe do a image of everything I have in a exeternal usb drive.
what is the best solution? I dont mind having to install everything again but if I can save em this work would be good. -
voyager, do a forums search please, there are tons of topics on how to replace drives.

I did. Did not find the answer for my question. Going to try again thanks.

Ok, then start a new thread, you're a little off topic.

Sorry about that.
