    Hello forum readers,

I have a little problem with my Fujitsu-Siemens P7010. It freezes and I have to switch it off. Sometimes it happens immediately after I switched it on others while working perfectly well in windows. I think there may be some sort of loose connection of something because it happens without fail when I press the case next to the mouse pad. Also, a little hatched blob appears next to the cursor.

I would really like to sort this out before it gets any worse and never comes on again. Any suggestions?

    TIA.

It sometimes freezes during startup and sometimes doesn't even get as far as the bios. So it has nothing to do with the OS.

hatched blob? could be the graphics card or the screen? or a hatched blob would be like a black dot? could be your RAM, u have two sticks? take one out and try or run memtest. also what is under the mouse area?

I don't think it is the memory, because I took one out, swapped it about etc. and it didn't seem to make any difference. The sensitive areas are on the right hand side. I looked at this: http://www.jail.se/hardware/laptop/fujitsu/p-series_lifebook_service_manuals/P7000-Assembly.pdf and under those areas there is the hard-drive, wireless card and some of the motherboard. I guess if it is the motherboard, then it's gonna cost more than it's worth to replace, but maybe if it's the hard-drive, it might not cost that much.

I think it is the motherboard. If it were the hard drive, it would still boot up to the BIOS screen. You can also use your warranty.

    Good luck.

Good point. Sometimes when I switch it on I just hear the fan and nothing else happens. Damn it!

    Thanks for your posts

Ok I got the same problem all that is mentioned is correct... at one point I complitely lost the display (image from the start before IO boots.... In desperation I pulled the clock battery the display came back but would not show when booting after battery is plugged back in.... I could repeat this and it does it every time.... Could the Bios be corrupt?

Could be possible. Try to update your BIOS through drivers.

Surely it isn't the drivers since it stops before anything, even the bios.

Obviously this is not isolated. I've been having very similar problems, and a few days back the P7010 crashed right in the middle of a boot and now I get the old "boot.ini invalid" bit and cannot access windows or anything else due to the HDD corruption. Prior to the failure, the laptop was simply rebooting randomly (especially when it was physically manipulated s/a moving screen etc), and I had the same issues with the bios not even loading up. I'd power it on and and the fan would start but screen remained blank).

Luckily, I managed to load up a copy of Knoppix to salvage some of what was on the HDD, as the Fujitsu recovery disk won't allow booting or access to the XP recovery console (!!), the options are a) erase HDD or b) erase HDD and install windows. Thanks for nothing!

Has anyone made any headway as far as isolating the problems listed in the thread? Thanks
