I'm seriously looking at buying the P7010D. I just have a few questions I can't seem to find the answers to, though.

    1. How good is the DVD playback on it? I know it uses integrated graphics that isn't very powerfull.

    2. Does it get hot? I've seen mixed reviews, with the ULV pentium would wouldn't think so, but it really depends on the cooling system.

    3. Is it solidly built? I have a Apple powerbook and ASUS W3v so my standards are fairly high. How does it compare?

Thank you for your help in answering any of these questions. :p

    1) Graphics have nothing to do with video playback, it's solid though, the enhanced widescreen is perfect for that job.
    2) It doesn't get hot but my fan runs very frequently.
    3) Yes, it's well built.

You should be aware a significant update is coming this year. I'd recommend you wait to see what that one offers. Right now, we're only certain it will have integrated Bluetooth, but it might go fanless and use a smaller drive too, not much is absolute at the moment.

I have the A version, which uses the Intel PRO instead of Atheros' super AG wireless card...

    1. The DVD playback is smooth, responsive, and fluid. The dolby headphone technology adds to the experience.

    2. It doesn't get hot since there is a suede cover underneath to protect the RAM from scorching your lap. The right armrest gets a little bit warm, but not warm.

    3. Not up to Powerbook standards, but I'll say it's satisfactory. You can really see wear if you are not careful -- like putting pressure on the LCD lid so the screen bezel touches the keyboard. Also, watch for plastic paint chips on corners and scratches on the rubber covering that protects the ports after long usage.

To me, the updates are not very significant since the slimmer, longer new P-series uses 1.8" hard drives which are hard (if not impossible) to upgrade. I also noticed that the compactflash slot is gone, and some ports are only available with the modular bay attachment...

So the update to this notebook will actually be worse then? What the heck was Fujitsu smoking in putting those stupid 1.8 inch drives now!? It'll be much harder to upgrade and there's much fewer drives to choose from. Stupid Sony chose the 1.8 inch drives in their T series, doesn't mean Fujitsu has to!

That is too bad. Fujitsu was one of the few that size that had a standard drive.

The specs for the US model are not final, but yes, it appears the 1.8" is coming. I don't know the new model is worse though. It loses the fan and won't be as warm, so that's the trade off. My initial feeling is that I don't like the idea. I've had the 7200RPM drive in my P for 3 years and like the performance gain. Maybe the lack of fan and a little less weight will be worth it, too early to tell.

they usually renew them. Once Fujitsu rebates a model they usually stick with it till the end :p
