Hi, i don't think that what laptop you own makes much of a difference when it comes to this problem. Has anyone done a clean install and got their fingerprint reader to work?
I actually bought the latest Softex Omnipass software but it doesn't allow one to swipe and register their fingerprint. It does not detect the biometric fingerprint reader.
The sensor was recognised when i installed the OS and for that i'm using the latest Authentec drivers that i got from the Fujitsu UK website. That application is just basic and you cannot set up your fingerprint with that. I tried using the drivers through microsoft update but just could not get the drivers to install.
I need to give this laptop back tomorrow and they would like to have the fingerprint working. I attempted this some time ago and i thought every thing was ok but that was not the case.
Has anyone got their fingerprint working after a clean install?
The Omnipass support for W7 is pretty poor.
Edited to add:
I bought the client pack and it cost $49.99. I decided at the time to not buy the $4.99 add on as i thought it was not needed but i just bought that today and downloaded it now and it looks like this was what might have been missing.
If i get it working i will update.
.....
I just cannot get it to work, for now i'll accept that it cannot be used with Omnipass in W7 if you do a clean install.

I have P770 although it could be similar. First of all it has OmniPass installation program on recovery DVD. I have not installed it (I have x64 W7) but you can try it.
If you don't need onmipass and can live with W7 native support, you can do the following:
1. Delete Authetec driver and files from device manager
2. Run scan for the new hardware and allow windows to search windows update for the drivers. It should download 30M package from the internet. after that you should have biometric devices enabled in control panel
Hope this helps -
Thanks dwkor, when i go there next i'll have to try that.
I'm not sure what fingerprint enrolment software you would use if you didn't use Omnipass.
I hope that Fujitsu or Softex can come out with an update. I paid money for the software and it doesn't even work. -
The method I described (native W7 biometric support) would work only for login process with W7. Not sure if it would be enough for you. But in any case it's better than nothing. Omni software which Fujitsu provided would not even install on x64.

I know some other manfacturers like Toshiba and HP use Softex Omnipass software also so it might be an idea to try other drivers also and see if you have better luck with it.
It is not great at all that you cannot even use the software that shipped with your laptop. -
Thank you, Rachel. I'm using fingerprint only for windows authentication, so native biometric support in W7 is enough for me.
My biggest personal blame to Fujitsu is missing bluetooth adapter in 2K MSRP business grade laptop. And Fujitsu is so rare here that chances to find out what is the part number for bluetooth adapter card are slim to none. Support does not provide this info.
