    Okay, so I just ordered a S2110 from P1 a couple of days ago and got the minimal specs so I can save money and later do it myself. Since I don't have my laptop yet and don't have a manual to refer to then I'd like to ask what brand/type of RAM does the S2110 use (a 512MB stick) and also what brand/type/speed does the harddrive have to be? I'm planning on updating it to a 60GB 5400 RPM HDD. Also, any specific brands/website I should consider buying from?

    The reason why I'm asking early is so I can order now and have them come at about the same time the laptop does so I can update all at once.

    Most brands of RAM will work. But the ones that are most used for their quality and compatibilty with most laptops are: kingston, crucial, corsair. (I am using kingmax, work well and are pretty cheap) Just make sure you get the correct type: SO-DIMM DDR PC2700 333MHz

    Same for HDD, anything will work. You might wanna ask in the hardware forums for which generally would produce the least noise. Other than that I really find not much of a difference between brands. 5400RPM is a good option for performance:speed ratio. 7200RPM are too overpriced, espcially these days. Make sure you get an IDE dive not a SATA (S2000 doesn't take SATA).

    That's about it.

    As for stores I like newegg and zipzoomfly. I had great service from both. (My rams came from newegg, HDD from ZZF; choice based on price)

    The 5400RPM is probably a better value, but the 7200 is oh so sweet if you can swing it.

    The review model I received had Samsung brand, but any of the above mentioned RAM is a good choice.

    I would look at newegg.com for Hard Drives. They usually have pretty good prices.

    I went looking around the newegg.com site and I've decided to buy this RAM:

    Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Notebook Memory - OEM

    * Model #: KVR333X64SC25/512
    * Item #: N82E16820172106

    $55.85

    And this Hard Drive:

    # Fujitsu MHV2060AH 60GB 5400 RPM Notebook Hard Drive - OEM

    Average Latency: 5.56ms
    Average Seek Time: 12ms
    Cache: 8MB
    Features: Low power consumption and power-save features help extend battery life RoHS-compliant, eliminating certain hazardous materials in the manufacturing of electronic equipment High speed and storage thresholds can spur a new generation of consumer entertainment applications Covered by a three-year Limited Warranty High shock tolerance for exceptional toughness and Fluid Dynamic
    Form Factor: 2.5"
    Interface: ATA-6
    Manufacturer Warranty: 3 Years
    # Model #: MHV2060AH
    # Item #: N82E16822153022

    $87.50

    I'm not sure yet if I'm going to buy from newegg.com, but are those two compatible with the Fujitsu S2110? I checked on the Fujitsu website but they were sort of vague on details.

    They should both be fine. I personally have been eying the Spinpoint 5400RPM 2.5" Hard drive for my eventual S2110, but, your choice looks fine.

    Hm, I know the 7200RPM HDD are supposed to be expensive, but I see a few on zipzoomfly.com that are just as costly as some 5400RPM. Any reason why? For example:
    Western Digital Caviar WD1200BB 120GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive is extremely cheap for those specs at only 71 dollars...

    Nono, the 5400RPM should be just fine, I have just been eying the Samsung Spinpoint series. I have one in my desktop, and it works fantastic (and its very quiet, too).

    As for the wheaper hard drive...those are desktop drives (3.5" wide). You need a laptop HD (2.5" wide).
