    Hi all,

I've finally decided that sitting on my butt waiting around for the Sonoma processor to arrive may not be the best thing for me (I play no games and low power comsupmtion is a high priority for me) so I'm ready to order either the 6231 or the MX. Quick question. Since I can't see either one before ordering how do you think PortableOne would feel about me ordering one of each with the intention of returning the one I decide not to keep? I might also be convinced to write a review of my thoughts as I compare them for my personal use . . .

    Thanks,

    Mike

You'd have to pay a restocking fee I assume. There are very few retailers that will accept a return without a very good reason. It's impossible to run a profitable business if your customers order stuff, open the goods, use them and then return them because then it can't be sold as new. Talk to Ivan at PortableOne or figure out for sure which one you want and order that one.

That's fair enough. But I fail to see much difference in my position vs. all those who've posted here saying they've returned a notebook because "they didn't like it" (most of my questions about Dells usually elicit at least one such response). Guess I should have asked about restocking fees or if they made up a reason good enough to avoid them. Maybe I'm just being stupid for being up front about it [ ;)] ! I would certainly not like to be perceived as trying to scam them or anything . . .

They have a 30-day return policy with no fees. Double check with Ivan though before ordering.

I read on one posting that Fujitsu would not take back a notebook because it was customized. Does Portable One, or any other vendor, have the same policy? I'm also thinking of getting a notebook from Portable On (S7010/20), but would like the option of returning it. Buying it without having a chance to check it out in person is a bit concerning.

I decided not to make any compromises this time and ordered the 6231. Assuming you must pay 10% restocking plus return shipping, is an extra $200 worth it to beta test both? I would rather spend that $200 on some accessory or upgrade.

Well, I thought about it some more and just decided that portability was a higher priority to me than the versatililty of the MX. If it was going to be my "desktop replacement", I would have gone with the MX for sure but this laptop is going to be used mainly on the road for storing pictures and traveling to remote destinations. I've heard so many good things about the S6231 that I figured it was at least 80/20 that I'd keep it over the MX anyway so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one from PortableOne this morning with the idea being that I'll probably be more than happy with it and by not trying to get both and return one I don't run the risk of being or being perceived to be a senseless boob. The only other interesting note was that my plan was interupted slightly by a new round of Dell coupons making the 700m attractive again briefly but I decided to forego that siren song and order the Fujitsu. Thanks for all your help folks!
