Stupidly, I have bought 3 Lifebooks, the latest being an S6231. I love the machines; however, all 3 failed in less than 3 years because the Powerport would no longer allow a charge to the battery. Fujitsu is charging $555 to repair this relatively simple problem, and the local service providers, who are not very local, charge almost as much.

This looks to me like built-in obsolescence, and I will now leave the Fujitsu fold.

This is a well known and well-documented feature of the S series. The power socket isn't sufficiently well restrained in the chassis so if you stress the power cable then you have the risk of breaking the socket's connection on the board.

I'm a little surprised that after your first encounter with the problem then you didn't take preventative action and fill the gaps between the power jack and the casing so that the jack couldn't move.

I am also puzzled why Fujitsu haven't addressed this detail, but it does appear that they have paid less attention to quality in recent years.
