This may be a general forum, but I have received good feedback from you guys in the past. I am having problems with the Super-Multi drive on my S7010. It often has difficulties reading DVDs. Sometimes it does not read them at all, while other times it will read them and maybe freeze a few minuets in to playback. Sometimes this is solved by restarting, but I really don’t feel like I should have to do this all the time. Maybe this is a Windows thing (I am running XP Home).

    Thanks,
    Terry

Unless it does this only with one or a few brands of media, I'd think the drive has issues. Perhaps remove it and reseat it. If that fails, I'd send it back for a new drive.

    Terry,

Same thing happend to me on my DVD/CD-RW player for my s6231. One thing to try before calling Fujitsu...uninstall then reinstall the DVD software that comes with the laptop. Fujitsu will ask you if you did that.

I think they also asked me to reformat my hard drive, but I didn't do that...they ended up exchanging my DVD player for a new one, and I never had the problem again.

No, they did not insist that I reformat it. They asked me if I did and I said no, but they didn't ask me further. They did want me to try reinstalling the program before sending me a new drive

Reminds me of an old Monty Python sketch where John Cleese returns a parrot to a pet store because the parrot died. The store clerk adamantly maintained that the parrot was not dead, and that it was only sleeping, otherwise why is it still on it's perch. "The reason it's on it's perch is because it was NAILED there" says Cleese.
