Hey guys, I am pretty sure the P7000D is the notebook for me.

    A few questions though:

    1. Can this notebook support 2GB of ram (2x 1gb of ram)? On the fujitsu site it says it can support 1gb max while portableone lets you confiure with up to 2gb total.

    2. Is portableone the best place to buy this computer? Or should I get it from fujitsu directly? (trying to save money)

    3. I dunno if you guys saw the review by mobilemagazine, it gave benchmarks of video performances. It said that it ran doom3 at 40+ FPS but it was the same benchmark as the portege S100. Tell me this is a dream come true but I am suspecting an error on their part. This computer won't be able to play games well will it? I just want to know if it will run Warcraft 3 at all.

    4. How is the durability on these computers? I am still debating if I should get the 3 year warranty.

You should try to find a P7010 or P7010D version, these are the newer versions of the P series.

If you go to notebook reviews section of this MB there will be a review of the P7010 and it mentions the difference between it and the P7000. The P7010 shouldn't be much more than the price you got for the P7000 and AFAIK they still offer the rebate.

I highly doubt this laptop can run the games you mentioned, you might want to recheck that magazine's test. A P7 series LT isn't known as a gaming machine.

I bought my P7010 refurbished directly from Fujitsu through EBay. It works great - no defects what so ever - and the price was even better: $1240 including the sales tax (but the price will vary beacuse every item is an auction). I highly recommend buying refurbished if you're short on cash and don't mind the limited warranty. The store:

    Specs:

    Pentium M Processor ULV 753 (1.20 GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 400 MHz FSB)
    256 MB micro-DIMM memory module
    40 GB hard drive
    Modular DVD/CD-RW combo drive

Doom 3 at 40 FPS!? You wish. More like 5.

Fujitsu makes really durable, strong computers and they have above average customer support. I know the older P5000 series took 1 gig of memory max. I'm not sure about the P7000 series.

I haven't seen a single unhappy PortableOne customer.

    1) Yes, but any more than 1GB is probably overkill. That's what I run and have never had a need for more.

    2) If you buy new, P1 is the way to go. Make sure to ask for a dead pixel check.

    3) This is a mistake, I'd bet Doom 3 won't even load.

    4) Very good quality, I've been with the P series for 3 years and never needed to send in for anything. If you buy from P1 the extra warranty is cheap if it makes you fell better to have it.

    Thanks all so far,

Another question, I dunno if you guys have ever compared the two but the P7010D vs S7020D, is there any performance difference?

I dunno if 10.6 inch screen would be too small... It is also more expensive than a S7020D but less powerful in terms of specs.

Even though this laptop is mainly for non-graphics use, I still want it to be very powerful and able to be put to the test using many apps and stuff.

The S7000 will be significantly more powerful, the CPU is 50-75% faster depending on what you get, plus the architecture is brand new, where the P7000 is still running on a slower backbone. That said, I haven't found anything mine can't handle.

    Brian,

Do you run any p2p programs or host bit torrents, etc. from your P7?

and how much does that take up if you do?

No, I don't run anything like that.
