I've ordered my 6231 from P-1 and should have this week. I have a few GPS devices that do not have USB access, what alternatives do I have to convert a USB port to a serial port?
    TIA

Your best alternative is probably in getting a USB docking station to use your serial devices. Fujitsu have a USB docking station for $100. Here is the link to the device: http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/fpc/Ecommerce/searchaccessories.do?search_string=FPCPR41

Thank you, but wouldn't this do the same for less $ :)

Yeah it would, but just having a docking station with extra connections would give you additional options in plugging other devices in other then a serial port.

let me jump in late and say some devices might have problems with that .

I was trying to connect a serial Wacom tablet and was told I might experience troubles so I bought a more pricy pcmcia card since pcmcia is a "real" com port .

A more simple usb-->serial might have worked too , but no one was able to promise me that .

Best is to test the thing before so you won't left with a useless part .

I second Gilo. I have friends with useless usb-serial adapters that didn't work as promised. I have also heard that the usb-serial adapters from Belkin are better than most. Test before you buy it. I know my local office depot will let me open stuff before I buy it- like the nice mouse I am using.
