    So yeah...

    I wanna buy a laptop ..Fujitsu..and i really like S series...

Can anyone plz explain the difference in these particular models (S2110 Vs S6240 Vs S7010)...

Should i spend more money on a new 7010??? or just go with 2110? the difference in screen size doesn;t really bother me, i am more concern with batter life, weight, screen quality and durability of the laptop....

    Thanks

    They can all run Vista.

S2xxx and S6xxx are built on the exact same chassis: 13" screen at 1024 x 786 3.7 lbs with DVD drive inside or 4.1 lbs if you take it out.

    Main difference is that
    - S2xxx series use the AMDchips, usually Turion chip right now, while S6xxx series use Intel chips, usually centrino.
    - I think S2xxx is also available with a variety of Wi-fi and built-in graphics chips, since they dont have the restrictions that go along with the centrino label ie intel only.

S7xxx is a bigger chassis, holding 14" screen with resolutioon of 1024 x 768 or 1400 x 1040 and weighs 4.1 lbs without DVD drive about 4.5 with it in. Uses SATA drives, where as the S6xxx and S2xxx usa PATA drives

Build quality is very similar. Basically the main difference with these is that you can:
S7110 - get biggest screen (14" and possible 1400x1050 resolution) but take a weight penalty
S6240 - cut down on weight but still have a pretty good size screen at 13"
S2110 - cut cost to the bone by dumping Intel's brand premium price AND you get a 64bit chip thrown in at the lower cost ( AMD Turion)

I dont think there is any advatnage to SATA instead of PATA. You wont see any effective speed difference on SATA vs PATA in a laptop. And it is far simpler to swap out and upgrade a PATA drive yourself.

If you are sure you want a Fujitsu, I'd say the S2110 is the best deal. You give up almost nothing performance wise and you get a cheaper laptop. I owned the S6231 for a while and when it broke down they gave me an S7110 after they lost it (really). I sold the S7110 because I didnt think it really had any advantage for the extra weight it brought. If I really want a bigger screen, I'd want it to be wide-aspect not 4-3 ratio.

So my recommendation would be to get a stripped down S2110 but just make sure it has a DVD-RW installed, then get the smallest memory and HDD and upgrade the thing yourself - its simple and much cheaper.

    I agree.

    I have a S2110 and I love it.

The best thing I like about it is the keyboard. I type all my papers, class notes and internet related stuffz with it. If you don't play any games and you just want a good working laptop that runs then S2110

This machine runs old games like Warcraft III and Roller Coaster Tycoon, thats about it.

    S2110 have the BEST keyboard.

What is the viewing angles like on the S2110? I'm thinking of getting one too. It is a flip between Fujitsu S-Series & Panasonic Y5. For me sxga+ screen is just a little too high so I'm favouring the S Series.

I'd be careful there. These are very different IMO.

I have the Panny W5 now, but before I had the Fujitsu S6231 which has same screen as S2110.

The Fujitsu screens are better in brightness and up and down viewing angles. What Panasonic does to acheive battery life (5-7 hours on the Y5 I think) is that they are using less power to light up the screen and then they have a diffusion coating that spreads the light better. But you dont get as good an up/down viewing angle - it has a much smaller sweet spot. And it is dimmer than the Fujitsu screens.

It took me about a month to adjust to that comng from the Fujitsu. It is fine now, but they do differ.

Hwoever, in terms of sharpness of detail and the side to side viewing angle, the Fujitsu and Panny Screen are comparable, yes.

So I'd think carefully about that before you buy. One (Y5) is a play for battery life and ligthness and and the other (S2110) is just purely after screen quality although it is still competitive on weight. Y5 is also at least twice the price of S2110, so it really self-selects for those who MUST have the extra lighter weight and battery life.
