    Hi
I am thinking of buying an S6220. The alternatives to it are: Sony S170(around 1K+ more expensive for same configuration) or Dell 700m, basically looking for a high end system which weights around 4lbs. What do you guys recommend?

Also, can someone post the exact speeds for the "Modular Super-Multi DVD drive". Found the following on the fujitsu website:
    (4x DVD-R, 2x DVD-RW, 24x DVD+R, 2.4x DVD+RW, 2x DVD-RAM, 8x DVD read, 16x CD-R, 4x CD-RW) ...

What exactly is the 16x CD-R speed? Is it the CD read speed or burn speed for CD-Rs?

    Thanks
    JoKer

The 6220 is superior in terms of quality and performance/dollar. I think it's a great option. You might opt to save money and go with the 6210 though, the upgrade price to Dothan has been pretty steep for Fujitsu over the past several weeks.

I agree with Brian. You should consider getting the S6210 and getting more RAM or a bigger/faster harddrive. Make sure to look at: www.portableone.com

    Thanks for replies guys.

Read that Intel is discontinuing their 130nm processors sometime and normal pentium ms are based on 130nm. whereas Dothan are 90nms. So, a couple hundred $$$ on the upgrade are ok. Only thing I am going to miss is a decent vid card aka 9700.

I am now thinking of buying 1GB RAM, 7K60 HD and 1.7GHz Dothan.

That would be a great unit, though I'm not sure the 1GB RAM is needed. You might consider getting 512 on one stick first to see how that works for you.

I suggest getting the 768mb ram upgrade for only $75. That is probably more than enough for now. Then if you want to have 1gig in the future, you just would have to buy a stick of 512mb ram.

While dvd writing isn't at the top of my wish list, it's a lot cheaper if bought with the laptop ($150-$180) vs from the fujitsu accessory store later ($349!!!).
