All, my S6120 has decided it no longer wants to boot.

Now when I turn it on the fan spins up and stays on full power, sometimes it beeps 4 times, but thats it. No screen, anything.

It's not proper BIOS beeps, because the Phoenix BIOS beeps tend to be 3 numbers e.g. 4-1-1 etc. Have verified this by removing the RAM and get proper Phoenix beeps. This also makes me think the CPU can't be knackered otherwise the BIOS wouldn't be able to make the beeps.

Any ideas whats wrong with it?

Ouch, sounds like something bad. Have you called support yet?

Have mailed them, but as yet no response.

Worst thing is, on their support forum someone has had the same problem, and there's 4 responses: -

(about halfway down, search for "beeps 4")

but it's only from the google cache, their forums are down so I can't read the replies!!!!

Assuming the problem is not the harddisk, how would one go about retrieving one's data? Is there for sale some adapter whereby one could hook up a notebook mini drive to an ide cable on a desktop to get your data?

Also assuming you tend to keep your notebook on standby or hibernate, did you try removing the battery for a couple minutes, then try again? Is there an ac switch somewhere for european voltage? While the machine is off, try moving that one way, then back.

Gah. Still no reply from Fujitsu support email. Anyone ever used them before, and how long did it take you to get a response?

They have live chat and someone answers the phone when you call. I wouldn't wait around for email, which is getting less reliable by the day.

10/10 to Fujitsu support. Even though I'd bought the laptop used off ebay, they still honoured the warranty (which I wasn't even sure it was still in warranty, not knowing the age of the machine).

Courier picked it up on Monday, arrived back working on Friday!

Turns out it was the power circuit board that they replaced - presumably it was powering the fans etc, but not the main part of the laptop!

As an added bonus, that circuit board includes the LCD status panel, which was cracked, so I got a new one of those too [ :D]
