I am very close to buying the S6120D, but am running into two types of wireless Atheros 802.11g WiFi or 802.11g WiFi. What is the difference?
Is this still a centrino, if not how does it compare?
Thanks![]()

Those are the same card in the 6120. When you add that card, it is no longer a Centrino notebook, but that really doesn't matter. The G card is backward compat with B routers, so it will work on either.

i'm sorry...a bit lacking in knowledge...what does 'G card is backward compat with B routers' mean?
Is the g card equal to centrino? -
Ok! thanks nobbie, just what i wanted to hear.

G > B
802.11g is faster than an 802.11b and is newer technology. It will however be able to access a "b" wireless network, but at "b' speeds. While a "b" notebook would be able to access a "g" network, it won't utilize the access speeds of a "g".
Make sense? In other words, if you can get a "g", get it. It will help keep your laptop from becoming obsolete so soon.[8D] -
In a nutshell, "Centrino" is a marketing package including the Pentium M processor and an Intel 802.11b card. Replace the card with another non-Intel card and it cannot be called Centrino. But for all intents and purposes, it's the same thing. (Just an 802.11g card will be a whole lot faster, eh?[
