There's a very strange problem with my wife's lifebook. The device manager shows IRQ conflict between CD-ROM and an SMC IrCC fast infrared port (IRQ 15). This is preventing her from using the drive. The problem is, the S6210 doesn't have an infrared port.

I've updated my chipset drivers and all the XP professional updates. Everytime I manually disable/uninstall this phantom IR device, it reappears with the next start-up.

Any ideas? My next step will probably be to reflash the bios, though I doubt that will change things.

    Thanks.

    Two thoughts:

    1. Check under the add/remove programs in Device Manager to see if the infra-red driver has been installed. If so, uninstall it.

    2. Check in the BIOS to see if there is an option for the infra-red (or any other IRQ management). If there is, change the settings.

You could look at the Microsoft kb page, although it is for earlier OSes.
