i've had this laptop for 2 years now, and the screen began flickering and then eventually parts of it turned a shade of red, and now turns on with a red tinge and then fixes itself and then eventually turns black, although you can still see the shadow of the screen in the background. So, i ended up attaching an external monitor to the laptop, and that works fine, although it does defeat the purpose of having a laptop. Any suggestions on what might be wrong, and if it is worth fixing?

well, if it displays fine on an external monitor, it is not a problem with the video card....probably means that something is wrong with the lcd or inverter, i.e. you would have to send it in for servicing.
