First of all, thanks to reading through the forum and
Portable One I just got my shiny new S6210. Very good
    experience with portable one.

Everything looks good and I really like it so far
but I have one question about the screen. Want to make
sure this is normal for the S6210 (and probably all laptops).

Screen looks great but the backlight does seem to flood the screen
from the bottom so the brightness is uneven - real bright
on the bottom and dark in the upper corners. I have
played with the brightness setting to try and get it more
smooth without making it too dim. I also played with
tilting the screen up and down.

Is this normal for the S6210 or laptops in general?

I changed the background and played with the setting so it
looks good but still - for certain apps - like watching DVDs.

Overall - I really like the layout and look and feel of the
S6210 and seems to perform really well ($1499 version from
    P1).

Again thanks for your help in deciding on the S6210 and any
    help you can give now.

    Casey
in widescreen mode it seems to flood from the bottom.

Ok...there was a post a while back about this issue. You need to find it and compare your leakage to his. The photos linked to from the post revealed a terrible problem. If you're noticing it now, you may also be affected and may require an exchange.

I tried to find the other topic with the flooding issue
but can't seem to locate it. Let me ask this. I have the
Fijitsu cloud background up. When looking at it straight on
its real bright from the whole bottom up to the middle
of the screen. After that it fades real fast towards the
upper corners. This happens at the best viewing angle
I can find. The icons on the sides look ok but the backgound
    fades completely.

At the perfect angle, should I be able to see a uniform
brightness? With the Fijitsu universe background there
is no angle (up down back and forth) which gives a nice even
deep black. If I angle it so the top is a nice even black
the bottom is then really washed out.

Also, after seeing this I went to Best Buy to look at a bunch of
laptops because I never remember seeing this as a problem
in all my laptop trips to the stores. Looking at the Sony
13.3 wide screen XBrite the viewing angles left and right
on DVDs seem much better. If I'm not too much off center
on my S6210 I start seeing the inverse video effect.
With the Sony I have to go to major extremes for this effect.
From the comments it seems the Fijitsu should be at least
close to the Somy XBrite in contrast and viewing angles but
to me the Sony was much much better which confuses me based
on the comments. Also the XBrite screen the light seems to
be more even and does not ever seem to come from the bottom
of the screen. I would take pics but my Camera is down in
    Florida right now :)

This is killing me because I really like the build, layout,
performance, and general feel of the S6210.

Ok - maybe its just me - but I still don't see the
same thing happen on hardly any other laptop
at Best Buy. Below is a link to a review - after the
first set of pictures is a link to and .avi video panning
from different angles. It has the Fijitsu Cloud background
and does show clearly what I've been seeing with the
brightness. So maybe its normal but I still seem to not
be able to find one angle which gives a sharp display
    on the whole screen.

    Brian,

Thank you very much for your reply's and the link
to the other thread (now I know why I couldn't find
it cause of the different machine). The thread
pointed out exactly what I've been seeing, I think
it might be worse on mine actually.

Ok - This makes me feel a little better aboutthe S6210
because the angles were really horrible and could never
get a uniform nice view at any angle or brightness.

Now - I need to figure out if I should get another
one or just return in. I say this because my
right and left viewing angles are horrible, the video
turns inverse at the side with just a very slight
movement to the left or right (I mean very slight).
Could this be caused by the light flooding problem?

Basically - for those who have good ones, when watching
a DVD - if you move to the left or right - do you
see a clear picture for a decent angle or do you
see the inverse video affect on the sides at not
    to drastic angles?

When looking at the Sony Xbrite 13.3 (150 I think) I
went 10x more extreme to the left and right and the
Movie still looks decent. Where with the S6210 and movement
    at all ruins the sides.

    Thanks,
    Casey

No, you need a new one, that display is totally shot. On my P7 I can clearly see what's going on at nearly 180 degrees. The color fades out a little, but well within reason.

Thanks, then mine is definitely broken. When watching
DVDs its not even clear at 10 degress (no exagerration).

Wish I could have taken a pic but I sent the pic of the 7010
problem to Portable One and they said that was real bad. I
rechecked mine and it was definitely worse.

Anyway - sent it back and we will see. I'm actually glad
because if it wasn't broken then based on comments of
the S6210 in these forums I thought everyone was nuts
    praising this machine.
