Hey everyone,
I just got my Fujitsu S6231 about a week ago.
I bought mine with the:
1.6 Processor
1 Gig of ram
40 Gig hard drive
I love absolutely love this laptop...it weighs nothing, its super fast, its sleek and the screen has such vibrant colors.
BUT...
My fan sometimes seems to act strange, even when Im putting very little demand on the laptop. Sometimes it will slowly rev up to about 70% speed for 4-5 seconds, then rev down for 4-5 seconds and then turn off. A few minutes later, it will do that same thing. Sometimes it will repeat this pattern of on-off for a while...then it will decide to just stay off. The fan is quiet so its not annoying; I just want to know that everything is fine on my laptop. Im not sure if this is normal because I dont see how running the fan for 10 seconds is cooling. On my old IBM A26m, the fan would come on every 30 minutes and stay on for 5-10 minutes, then turn off.
Does anyone elses fan behave this way? Is there any way I can play around with my fan settings? Everyone else seems to boast that their fan never comes on!
Even with the strange fan behaviour, I would recomend the S6231 to anyone looking for a sleek, light weight business/school machine!! :fujitsu:

My 6231 fan runs the same as yours.
I took it into tech support at my vendor who said it is normal for this notebook, stating that the small size of the fan and and notebook requires the fan to run more often.
I guess it's better than havnig it run hot.

I expect the fan to come on more, but does yours turn off after about 10 seconds? or does it stay on for a few mins at least?
Yeah...the laptop does not feel hot at all -
The laptop is adjusting processor speed depending on what you are doing. So when it increases the speed of the processor, the fan is going to rev up, and then as the speed throttles down, the fan will slow down or shut off.
This happens to mine when I set the laptop on portable/laptop in Windows XP power options.
If you don't want the fan to turn on, then set the power options to "max battery" That is what I do, and the fan never turns on.
However, for some reason the Windows XP power options isn't always accurate, so what I recommend is downloading Speedswitch XP...it's a free program that more accurately measure the computer's speed. You can then set power options with this program. I would recommend doing this if you want a more quiet fan. -
The cpu temp is creeping up, then when it reaches the "fan temp", the fans will cool it down to 10 degrees below, but then it will start to go back up again.
